PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Jim Remy of Ludlow, Vt., was elected the 36th president of The Professional Golfers’ Association of America today by delegates at the Association’s 92nd Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz. Remy previously served as Secretary of the Association from 2004-2006 and Vice President from 2006-2008. He is the first member of the New England PGA Section to be elected President of The PGA of America.

Remy, 54, succeeds Brian Whitcomb of Bend, Ore., who will serve on The PGA Board of Directors as Honorary President. Succeeding Remy as Vice President is Allen Wronowski of Bel Air, Md., who served the past two years as Secretary.

Ted Bishop, 54, of Franklin, Ind., was elected Secretary. In addition, four new members of The PGA Board of Directors were sworn into office.

Remy, a PGA member for 24 years, is the vice president and general manager at the Okemo Golf Division at the Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, Vt. He began his career at the Worcester (Mass.) Country Club, the site of the first Ryder Cup. He served as assistant professional at Worcester Country Club and Mount Pleasant Country Club, two of Massachusetts’s premier private facilities.

After accepting the head golf professional position at Killington Golf Resort in Vermont in 1985, Remy went on to become the director of golf and summer sports, and eventually the director of golf for the Vermont Divisions for S-K-I Ltd.

In late 1997, Remy accepted a position with Okemo Mountain Resort and became responsible for the construction and development of the Okemo Valley Golf Resort. Today as vice president and general manager of the Okemo Golf Division, he is responsible for all aspects of one of New England’s leading membership and resort facilities.

Remy has served in almost every capacity within the New England PGA Section. From 1995-1997 he served as president of the New England PGA Section. Among various awards, he was named the 1997 New England PGA Golf Professional of the Year. He has also served an unprecedented 6½-year term on the National Board of Control, which reviews and rules on membership issues. He was named to the Board in 1997 to finish the term of William A. Mitchell, who passed away, and was then named to his own term in 1999. He took part in nearly 1,200 decisions during his more than six years on the Board.

Allen Wronowski, 54, was elected Vice President of The PGA of America. Wronowski served as District 10 Director on the PGA Board of Directors, and has served since 1990 as PGA Head Professional at Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Md. He has a distinguished record of service to The PGA and to the Middle Atlantic PGA Section, beginning with active involvement in Section governance soon after being elected to membership in 1981.

From 1983-1988, Wronowski served on the Assistant’s Committee as treasurer, vice president, president and tournament chair. He has served on the MAPGA Board of Directors since 1996, holding all of the offices of secretary, vice president, president, and currently Board of Control representative.

Over the past 21 years, Wronowski has been an active member or chair of numerous Section committees, and at the national level represented the MAPGA as a delegate to the PGA Annual Meeting from 1995-2000, in addition to his role as PGA District 10 Director.

PGA Secretary Ted Bishop is the general manager and PGA director of golf at The Legends of Indiana Golf Club in Franklin, Ind. Hew is the third member of the Indiana PGA Section to be elected PGA Secretary, following the late Don Padgett and Mickey Powell, who each went on to serve as the respective 20th and 24th presidents of The PGA of America.

Bishop was elected to PGA membership in 1985, and has served in a leadership capacity at both the Section and national levels since 1989. He is a past member of the PGA Board of Control (2002-2005), and is the current District 6 Director, representing the Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin PGA Sections on the PGA Board of Directors.

Since 1989, Bishop has served at all official levels of the Indiana PGA Section, including a term from 1997-98 as Section president. He is the current chair of the PGA membership Committee, a member of the PGA Budget Committee; the chair of the PGA Code of Ethics Task Force, and past chair of the Indiana PGA Section Education, Employment, Finance and Public Relations Committees.

Bishop was honored in 1998 as the Indiana PGA Golf Professional of the Year, and was the 1996 and 1997 Section Bill Strausbaugh Award winner; and the 1991 Section Horton Smith Award winner.

On the course, Bishop is a four-time qualifier for the Indiana Open, and the 2007 Indiana PGA Father-Daughter Gross Division Champion.

Since 2007, Bishop has been a member of the City of Franklin (Ind.) Planning Commission and is a member of the board of directors of the Indiana Golf Foundation.

The PGA’s four new PGA Board members are: Michael Doctor of Camillus, N.Y., Ron Dunham of Jackson, Wyo., Bruce Patterson of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and Jeff Smith of Oskaloosa, Iowa. The new directors will serve three-year terms.

The PGA Board of Directors is composed of the Association’s president, vice president, secretary, honorary president and 17 directors. The directors include representatives from each of The PGA’s 14 districts, two Independent Directors and a member of the PGA Tour. New District Directors are elected by their local PGA Sections.
