RIDGELAND, Miss., January 21, 2009…SkyGolf (PGA Merchandise Show Booth #1803), one of the fastest growing companies in golf and maker of SkyCaddie®, the #1 Rangefinder in Golf, and the industry’s only GOLD recipient in the 2009 Golf Digest “Hot List” for GPS rangefinders, today announced a major alliance designed to further enhance the Company’s position as the industry leader in the rangefinder category.
The Company has announced the addition of Major-winning caddie, Mike “Fluff” Cowan, one of the PGA TOUR’s premier professional caddies, to its already impressive product advisory board. Cowan, who is the longtime caddie of fellow SkyGolf team member and PGA TOUR star Jim Furyk, was on his bag with Furyk during the 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup victory, as well as Furyk’s 2003 U.S. Open win and many others.
In addition to his successful partnership with Furyk, Cowan, who has caddied on the PGA TOUR for four decades, has been on the bag for dozens of tournament wins, including the 1997 Masters. He has caddied for notable players such as Tiger Woods, Peter Jacobsen, Michelle Wie and other professionals.
“Having ‘Fluff’ Cowan join the SkyCaddie Advisory Team, alongside of U.S. Ryder Cup star Jim Furyk, gives us a powerful addition from the PGA TOUR, to drive the importance of having the right information to improve play regardless of skill level,” said Richard Edmonson, CEO, SkyGolf. “No one knows better the importance of having reliable course information in professional golf, and ‘Fluff’ is an expert in calculating the precise distances that ultimately determine Jim Furyk’s club and shot selection. He will play an important role in helping SkyGolf communicate the value of having this same reliable information provided by SkyCaddie for today’s amateur golfers, especially from a successful TOUR caddie’s perspective.”
“I am excited to join the SkyGolf Advisory Team and utilize my experience as a professional TOUR caddie to communicate the benefits of SkyCaddie and its impact on player performance,” said Cowan. “As Jim Furyk’s caddie, he relies on my course knowledge to manage his game, which is the same advantage amateur golfers can enjoy with SkyCaddie.”
Cowan is the latest member of the SkyCaddie Advisory Board, including Furyk, acclaimed instructor Hank Haney, LPGA winner Natalie Gulbis, 7-Time PGA TOUR winner and Champions Tour Major winner Peter Jacobsen, and veteran PGA TOUR caddie and PGA Tour & USGA yardage book author and Fred Funk’s caddie, Mark Long, who was instrumental in helping SkyGolf develop its golf course mapping methodology.
Only SkyCaddie, after getting permission, walks the course with skilled golfers – using survey grade equipment – to record high-precise distance information, using the only method trusted by TOUR caddies to get information for their TOUR player. As a result, only SkyCaddie works hand-in-hand with each of its more than 23,000 golf course partners to ensure that golfers have the benefit of the most up-to-date and reliable course maps in the game today. In addition to distances to all bunkers and hazards, SkyGolf’s patented IntelliGreen technology automatically rotates the true shape of the green to match a golfer’s angle of approach. This gives golfers a scoring opportunity on every shot, as it provides not only the front carry and back distances, but the depth of the green from any line of approach, just like a TOUR caddie.
