Tellstrom to oversee operations at the new Pete Dye golf course
French Lick, IN – French Lick Resort, located in southern Indiana, has appointed PGA Professional Jan Tellstrom to its professional golf staff. Jan will be the Head Golf Professional for the new Pete Dye golf course, scheduled to open April 24, 2009.
French Lick Resort hired Tellstrom in an effort to bring together someone with a strong PGA background and experience within the state of Indiana together with one of the premier golf facilities in the country.
“We are very pleased to have Jan join our team at French Lick Resort as the head golf professional for the new Pete Dye course,” said Dave Harner, Director of Golf at French Lick Resort. “He brings a certain quality of knowledge and professionalism to this position that will be a perfect compliment to this new high-end Pete Dye course. I can’t think of a person who could bring more experience to this position in the business of golf than Jan Tellstrom.”
Jan Tellstrom has been a Class A Member of the PGA and a fixture within the Indiana Section of the PGA since 1974. The majority of those years were spent at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis where Jan developed several award winning junior golf programs.
Jan has also been the recipient of several awards including “The Earl Woods Trophy” by Golf Digest for junior golf development, Indiana’s “Horton Smith Award” for outstanding contributions to PGA Educational Programs, as well as the “Indiana PGA Golf Professional” of the Year in 2007 for his outstanding contributions to the game of golf.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to be the PGA Professional at one of our country’s finest resort destinations, French Lick Resort,” said Jan Tellstrom. “I look forward to working for the Cook Group, who has brought together a unique vision and a corporate philosophy to create one of the top resort experiences in the country. I am also thrilled to work at a golf facility designed by one of the most legendary golf course architects of our time, Pete Dye. The property is magnificent, and this course may be his finest work yet,” continued Tellstrom.
French Lick has become one of the premier golf destinations in America
When the Dye course opens in the spring, the French Lick Resort will offer 45-holes of championship golf with two unique designs that will be a perfect compliment to each other. It will be the only resort destination in the country to combine a historic Donald Ross course with a Pete Dye modern classic.
In addition, the French Lick Resort has undergone a $500 million historic renovation. This renovation project of both historic hotels, the French Lick Springs Hotel and the West Baden Springs Hotel with a combined 686 guest rooms, the restoration of the historic Donald Ross course, and the addition of the new Pete Dye course along with two full service spas, meeting rooms, and a 51,000-square foot, single-level casino, along with an array of dining and entertainment options makes French Lick Resort one of the premier golf and travel destinations in the country.
