Mike Goodes Captures First Career Champions Tour Title Playing New Pro V1x
Fairhaven, MA (February 17, 2009) – Angela Stanford, relying upon the New 2009 Pro V1 golf ball for the first time in competition, rallied to win the season-opening SBS Open by three shots at wind-swept Turtle Bay in Hawaii. Stanford closed with a 2-under 70 for a 10-under 206 total, overcoming a three-stroke deficit during the final round. It marked the fourth career win for Stanford, and her third in seven starts. Stanford’s stellar play is a continuation of the momentum she enjoyed at the close of the 2008 campaign. In her final six events last year, she won twice and finished no lower than a tie for sixth.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 91 players (66%), including 71 who transitioned into the New 2009 Pro V1 or Pro V1x the first week it was available to them for competition.
Meanwhile, at the Allianz Championship on the Champions Tour, Mike Goodes trusted the New 2009 Pro V1x to fire a final round 6-under 66 for a dramatic come-from-behind, one shot victory. It was the first career win for Goodes, who finished with a 15-under 201 total. The 52-year-old was a lifelong amateur until he Monday-qualified his way to 29th on the 2008 money list.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Allianz Championship with 52 players (66%), compared to 15 for the nearest competitor. Of the 52 players who trusted a Titleist golf ball, 19 played the New 2009 Pro V1 and 11 played the New 2009 Pro V1x.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Anthony Kang of the United States, relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball to convert a birdie putt at the final hole and secure a one shot win at the Maybank Malaysian Open. The 36-year old, who began the final round two shots behind the overnight leader, closed with a 5-under par 67 to win his first career European Tour title. The event is co-sanctioned by The European Tour and the Asian Tour. Kang finished at 17-under par 271, for his first win since the 2001 Myanmar Open. His closing birdie avoided a possible five-way playoff, as fellow Pro V1x loyalists David Horsey and Miles Tunnicliff were among four players who tied for second on 16-under.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 98 players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 22.
PGA TOUR: The final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am was washed out and the third round leader was declared the winner. The champion relied upon a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Newport putter, becoming the third player through the first six 2009 PGA TOUR events to win with a Cameron.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am with 116 players (64%), compared to 27 for the nearest competitor. Of the 116 players who trusted a Titleist golf ball at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, 40 played the New 2009 Pro V1x and 27 played the New 2009 Pro V1. Titleist was also first in iron sets (51), wedges (167) and putters (74), and second in drivers (94).
SOUTH AFRICAN (SUNSHINE TOUR): Anders Hansen (Pro V1x) carded a final round of 7-under 65 for an 18-under 270 total, as he cruised to a four-shot victory at the Vodacom Championship. Hansen is a perfect two for two on the 2009 Sunshine Tour (in January he also won the Joburg Open, an event co-sanctioned by the European Tour and Sunshine Tour). Graham DeLaet (Pro V1x) tied for second at 14-under 274.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Vodacom Championship with 114 players (74%), compared to 34 for the nearest competitor.
