Six Mile, S.C. (April 25) – Top professional students Geoff Ogilvy, Stuart Appleby and Mathew Goggin provided a shot-making demonstration Saturday (April 25) to help celebrate the grand opening of the International Institute of Golf at The Cliffs at Keowee Springs.
The Institute, taught by decorated Australians Steve Bann and Dale Lynch, had its home in Melbourne, Australia, for the past 18 years, where they worked with Ogilvy and Appleby since they were junior players. Now about 45 minutes west of Greenville, S.C., they have a new 3,100-square foot state-of-the-art indoor training facility and an outdoor practice range designed by architect Tom Fazio where students can practice shots from all types of lies.
“No doubt, it’s one of the best practice facilities in the world,” said Lynch. “It’s almost a ‘Field of Dreams’ we’ve built here. It has everything we could want in a facility, and more.”
“Selfishly, we now have a facility that’s world class and it’s close to the Tour,” said Ogilvy.
Fazio also designed a championship golf course at Keowee Springs, which opened in September 2008 and was named one of the top 10 new private courses by Golf Magazine.
“It’s a total practice and teaching facility,” said Bann. “We can have golfers practice every shot that they will ever see on the course.”
Inside is the latest computer, video and motion analysis technology, including a Nike Golf 360 Fitting Studio to insure that professional and amateur clients alike find the right equipment for their games. The Institute will also be the first to offer the Swing Catalyst Studio.
After a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony and an instructional clinic in front of a crowd of 450, one lucky Cliffs’ resident, Bruce Wellmon, won a week-long golf trip for two to Scotland that includes admission to the 2009 British Open.
