Indiana Women Receives $1000 Scholarship for College Education
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., July 8, 2009 Ìø?å_ The EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association) Foundation has awarded the 2009 ‘Women On Par®’ scholarship to Angela Hagler of Danville, Indiana. The program was established in 2008 to provide financial assistance to nontraditional female students – women at least 30 years old. It targets women who need assistance in bolstering their education to allow them to get ‘on par’ with their peers and to advance themselves, whether professionally or personally.
The scholarship program is designed to help women who are first time applicants or returning to school to complete their degree. This year’s recipient of the $1000 scholarship was a teenage mother who now has two grown sons. She entered college in 2008 to earn an accounting degree to better support her disabled husband and herself.
“This scholarship means the difference for me to be able to stay in school,” says 42 year old Hagler. She and her husband Robert were forced to sell their home and move in with her mother following his disability four years ago.
Hagler works full time as an administrative assistant at Sycamore Services, a not-for-profit organization serving developmentally disabled adults in Plainfield, Ind., while attending Ivy Tech Community College. She is a 1984 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and active in the Harmony Baptist Church.
“My advice to other women is to take control of your own life,” says Hagler. “I probably could have gone back to school sooner if I had realized how to find help to pursue my educational dreams.”
Hagler’s oldest son, Jeremiah is planning to enter the seminary following his graduation this year from Liberty University. Her younger son Jeffery and wife Tara are the parents of Hagler’s one year old granddaughter, Alyssa.
“This is only the second year for our ‘Women On Par®’ scholarship program and applications were received from 47 states as well as Puerto Rico and Alberta Canada,” says Margaret Downey, president of the EWGA Foundation. “We salute all of these nontraditional “older” students striving to get ‘on par’ and achieve their educational goals.”
The application period for 2010’Women On Par™’ scholarships will open on January 1, 2010. EWGA membership is not a requirement to apply or receive a scholarship. Applicants are required to be pursuing a technical/vocational degree, associates or bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled or accepted to enroll in an accredited school, college or university.
