PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 18, 2009) – The award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show, hosted by Tony Leodora, has begun a special promotion with Hershey Golf Collection – a division of Hershey Entertainment and Resorts – highlighting the new Hershey Amateur being held in Hershey, Pa., October 11-14.
The Hershey Amateur is a new golf competition bringing golfers to the Hershey area for a flighted, net stroke-play competition. The original goal is to attract golfers from across the Mid-Atlantic region to Hershey, and eventually expand its reach to across the country. The event is open to all golfers with an established USGA handicap.
“This is the ultimate way to finish a golf season in the Mid-Atlantic region,” explained Tom Jaronski, golf consultant for Hershey Golf Collection. “Players have had all year to fine-tune their game, and they can put it to the ultimate test before the weather turns too cold. Plus, the conditions of the Hershey courses in the fall should be perfect, with the changing colors of the leaves adding to the experience.”
Players will compete over 36 holes on the famous West Course, designed by Maurice McCarthy, and the challenging East Course, designed by George Fazio. These two classic golf courses will be contrasted by the style of the newer Hershey Links Course, the site of the championship round. Hershey Links was designed by the team of Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, and combines open, panoramic views with accents=2 0of fescue grass.
Entry into the Hershey Amateur also includes daily continental breakfast and lunch, a player gift bag, a welcome dinner, the GolftoberFest dinner and an awards party. Full details on the event can be found at www.hersheyam.com.
GolfTalk Live engaged in a promotional partnership with the event – providing on-air coverage during the weekly show and developing an e-mail campaign to help reach golfers throughout the region. GolfTalk Live joins CBS3 in Philadelphia and Amateurgolf.com as media sponsors for the event.
“We feel a need to support the best competitive events throughout the region, and the initiative taken by the people involved with the Hershey Amateur certainly puts the event at the top of the list,” remarked Tony Leodora, host of GolfTalk Live. “Events like the Hershey Amateur, with competition on great golf courses and nightly events to bring the golfers together, are good for the general golf climate in the area. They build excitement and provide an excellent competitive platform for serious golfers.”
