Columbus, Ga., – Roy Nix, Executive Director of the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals (AGCP), leader in the advancement of custom clubfitting and clubmaking , reports that on October 13 – 17 the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals conducted their 4th Annual Roundtable Education Convention, at the Columbus Iron Works and Convention Center in Columbus, Ga. Roy Nix, the association’s founder and Executive Director said RT-4 was a huge success and nearly every sponsor at RT-4 has expressed interest in not only returning for RT-5 next year but expanding their footprint in the AGCP. Nix said “We had almost twice as many sponsors this year than for RT-3 and some of them came with the attitude of sticking their toe in the water to test it and left with the attitude of jumping in head first next year and many expressed a long term commitment to support the AGCP far into the future. The attitude with sponsors was, they like what they see, the members are extremely knowledgeable, and they want to promote the AGCP and help it grow”.
FlightScope, AccuLength Junior Clubs, Tom Wishon Golf, Aerotech Shafts, Aldila, Club Conex, Enzo Shafts, Fierce Golf, Golf Achiever – Focaltron, Infiniti Golf, Real Feel Golf Mats, KC Specialty Products – Silencer System, OptimalFlight, Pure Grips, Rife Putters, Scratch Golf, S K Fiber Shafts, Sports Sensors, Inc., Swingrite, and Swing Science indicated they expect to be here for RT-5. Many expect to expand their participation for RT-5 and offered long term support for the AGCP. The increased interest and support of sponsors combined with Tom Wishon as the featured speaker for RT-5 is expected to bring twice as many participants to RT-5. “We moved from a 5,000 square foot facility in 2008 to the 15,000 square foot North Hall at the Columbus Irons Works Trade and Convention Center this year and we have reserved additional space for 2010 and we plan on using the 4,000 square feet at AGCP headquarters and McNix Golf again next year for various certification classes We also had a tremendous response to the Demo Day that was rained out Wednesday at Woodland Hills Golf Club. ” Nix said. “We had about half a dozen additional exhibitors interested in RT-4 who for various reasons could not be here this year but have expressed interest in being here in 2010 and we expect the Demo Day to be much larger next year”.
The response to the Columbus Iron Works and Convention Center was overwhelming to us. We see our facility all the time and it’s a great facility but we had no idea it would be such an attraction for both the AGCP members and our sponsors. Having the Marriott Hotel across the street with their first class facility has been a great attraction also. We already have a number of reservations for next year at the Marriott just from members seeing the hotel while they were here.
A number of our members brought their wives this year and experienced the warmth and richness of our history by visiting the historic Springer Opera House and dining at nearby restaurants. Many members took a walk on Columbus’ Riverwalk and some told us they would love to move to Columbus because we have such a beautiful city. Some were overwhelmed by the Southern Hospitality of Columbus and can’t wait to return for RT-5 next year. We are especially proud that we had three visitors from the Netherlands, 2 visitors from Sweden and one from England for RT-4.
The AGCP spent most of 2009 building and equipping a new Headquarters and getting it ready to use in 2010. The new headquarters, now being called The AGCP Learning Center, has a classroom and studio and will be used for shooting professional quality videos and as a classroom for projected schools. We also have the additional 2,000 plus square feet of the McNix Golf Fitting Studio and show room to use for launch monitor testing, fitting videos, and for classes in the future. Many of the Sponsors exhibiting at RT-4 have expressed an interest in coming back to the studio to assist in shooting training videos and videos to promote custom fitting to the general public, and producing educational videos for clubfitters and clubmakers around the world. Nix has had preliminary talks with FlightScope, Golf Achiever, Pure Grips, SwingRight, Pure Grips, Aldila, Infiniti, SK Fiber, Fierce Golf, Sports Sensors, and others about assisting with videos to upload to YouTube and training videos for members. The AGCP expects to have a busy year of producing videos in 2010. “My wife and I have a background in TV, Radio and print media and at one time owned a Regional Advertising Agency and we are experienced in producing broadcast quality TV and Radio as well as print media advertising” Nix said.
Nix says that RT-5 is expected to have more business courses for members to attend along with the Clubfitting and Clubmaking classes typically scheduled. With many of the best clubfitters and clubmakers in the world, The AGCP also wants to create some of the most successful businessmen in the world. The AGCP will be looking at classes that cover all aspect of being a small business. We will produce classes in bookkeeping, accounting, merchandising, marketing/sales/advertising to help our members become financially successful as well as technically sound as clubfitters and clubmakers.
Nix says that with the AGCP headquarters 98% complete and the AGCP Learning Center set to go we are looking for an exciting year promoting custom fitting and custom building in 2010. We have a number of exciting projects that should come to fruition in 2010. With our new relationship with the United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF) and their members, a possible project with Aldila shafts to let our members go through the process of designing and testing a new shaft, our booth at the PGA Show in Orlando in January, one of our members organizing a project to test a new EI machine for profiling shafts, and some projects to be announced later, The AGCP is looking a lot of interesting developments in 2010.
