‘Garden Isle’ highlighted in Conde Nast Traveler and Celebrated Living
(KAUA’I, Hawaii) — The Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Resort & Spa, the Kaua’i Marriott on Kalapaki Beach and The St. Regis Princeville Resort received recognition for their world-class golf and resort offerings in the most recent issue of two renowned travel publications.
The Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Resort & Spa and the Kaua’i Marriott on Kalapaki Beach are both listed on Conde Nast Traveler’s prestigious list of “Top 80 Golf Resorts.” The rankings were based on the magazine’s 14th annual “Reader’s Choice Survey,” in which thousands of readers cast their votes for the best golf courses and hotels in North America and the Caribbean.
In addition, Celebrated Living named the Princeville Prince Course — located near The St. Regis Princeville Resort and Makai Golf Club — to its Top-20 U.S. Golf Course list. Celebrated Living is American Airlines’ quarterly, first- and business-class in-flight publication that reports on the finest resorts, spas, trips, restaurants, golf resorts and more worldwide. The Princeville Prince Course — like Makai Golf Club — is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design, and is rated the No. 1 course in golf-rich Hawaii by Golf Digest magazine.
The St. Regis Princeville Resort recently completed a $100-million rebranding/renovation project that included an extensive reworking of Makai course, an amenity of the resort. All 252 rooms, which now include 51 ocean-view suites, were remodeled and the new 10,000-square-foot Halelea Spa were unveiled.
Also, The St. Regis Princeville Resort ranked No. 5 on Celebrated Living’s Top-10 Hawaii Resorts list, along with the Grand Hyatt Kaua’i (No. 6) and the Kaua’i Marriott on Kalapaki Beach (No. 10), where the Jack Nicklaus-designed Kaua’i Lagoons Golf Club is located. In addition, the Grand Hyatt Kaua’i, adjacent to the beatific Poipu Bay Golf Course, was listed on the Top-10 Family Resorts Platinum List.
“Having our resorts and courses so honored demonstrates that Kaua’i is a destination for visitors of all ages with varied interests,” said Sue Kanoho, Executive Director of the Kaua’i Visitors Bureau. “We’re thrilled the renovations have been so well-received and rated by discerning critics and visitors.”
Hometown time zone discount at Puakea Golf Club
Depending on where you’re from, you can play Puakea Golf Club at a substantially discounted twilight rate, even during peak hours of the day.
Beginning July 1, the award-winning golf course — ranked among Hawaii’s best courses by Golfweek magazine and known for its stunning views of Mt. Ha’upu — is running a campaign called “It’s 2 O’Clock Somewhere.” If it’s 2 p.m. where guests live, the course will offer green fees at the $65 twilight rate.
The clubhouse will display clocks showing time zones. All you have to do is present valid identification. This offer is good through Sept. 30.
“Free For Fall” campaign at the Kaua’i Lagoons Golf Club
Junior golfers ages 6 to 17 can play the celebrated Kaua’i Lagoons Golf Club for free and receive free rental clubs when playing with a paid adult from Aug. 5 through Dec. 25. Kaua’i Lagoons was voted one of the “The Top 50 Resort Courses” worldwide by GolfWorld magazine in the “2009 Readers’ Choice Awards.”
Kaua’i Lagoons is adjacent to the Kaua’i Marriott on Kalapaki Beach. In July, the resort will open a new kids’ pool with a slide that will enhance its hibiscus-shaped pool accented with water spouts and five Jacuzzis, each in their own gazebo and separated by waterfalls. The enhanced Kids Club will feature hula lessons, sand castle building and Wii games for kids ages 5-12. The resort is also making its Kids Club more teenager-friendly by adding televisions, wireless Internet connection, computers, air hockey tables and other games. In addition, the “Kaua’i Beach Boys” offer ocean equipment such as snorkel gear, boogie boards, surf boards, and kayaks for rent on Kalapaki Beach.
Renovation of the renowned Kiele Course back nine holes at Kaua’i Lagoons began earlier this month. The original designer of the course, Jack Nicklaus, is overseeing the project. The “Golden Bear” is scheduled to make a site visit this summer. In the meantime, golfers can play an engaging 18-hole layout that includes the Kiele front nine and the resort-friendly back nine of the former Mokihana Golf Course.
The new Kiele back nine is expected to be ready for play in May, 2011 and upon completion will feature the longest stretch of ocean-front holes in Hawaii. Renovation of the Kiele front nine and the Mokihana holes is scheduled to begin in 2012 and will eventually give Kaua’i Lagoons 27 Jack Nicklaus Signature golf holes.
