November 8, 2010; Phoenix, Arizona – After a successful launch in Japan earlier this year, PING’s much-anticipated Anser® iron, the company’s first forged design in more than 40 years, arrived in U.S. and Canadian golf shops last week, according to John Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO.
“The new Anser iron is one more piece of good news in what has been a very exciting year for us,” said Solheim. “We’ve pushed the forging process to a new level and I know golfers in the U.S. and Canada will be as eager to play it as they have been in Japan. It’s a beautiful golf club that performs beautifully, too.”
Since its introduction in Japan, the Anser has met with strong consumer response and generated significant buzz on golf blogs and in golf shops around the world. As of last week, authorized PING retailers in the United States and Canada began receiving the new irons.
The Anser carries the same name as one of the early iron models that PING founder Karsten Solheim produced before he transitioned to the popular investment casting process. Combining an 8620 steel body and tungsten sole, the Anser features a machined face and grooves for improved spin and control. Its hollow-sole cavity design softens the feel and positions the center of gravity to generate higher-launching iron shots. The progressive set design offers forgiveness in the long irons and greater control in the short irons.
Solheim said PING engineers worked diligently to make sure the company’s first forging in 40-plus years featured technology consistent with PING’s reputation as a leader in golf club innovation. The result, he said, is unequalled forged-iron performance. “It’s forgiving and yet it provides workability for the better player,” he said. “And the feel is amazing.”
The Anser is available in 3-9, PW. It comes stock with a steel Project X® shaft (5.0, 5.5, 6.0 & 6.5). U.S. MSRP is $190 per club.
