January-November snapshot is prelude to Golf Datatech’s release of “first-ever” annual report
on men’s & women’s golf apparel sales; 2010 report to be released in February 2011
ORLANDO, Fla., January 20, 2011 … Golf Datatech, LLC (www.golfdatatech.com), the industry’s leading independent research firm for consumer, trade and retail golf trends and performance, today announced key findings from the past 11-months of the Company’s Golf Apparel Market Reports, representing the January-November 2010 time period. The study is a prelude to Golf Datatech’s release of the “first-ever” Golf Apparel Market “ANNUAL” Report, which is due out in February 2011, and will highlight findings of each of the monthly reports, along with new and developing trends in golf apparel sales. Additionally, the latest monthly report, specifically covering November 2010, is now available to subscribers and captures retail sales data from both On-Course and Off-Course retailers in the U.S., and covers the top selling men’s and women’s apparel brands broken down by price range, clothing type and inventory.
The Golf Apparel Market Reports, which are available on a monthly basis to apparel companies, retailers and golf shop operators/managers, provide a detailed snapshot of apparel sales for every category, including shirts, pants and outerwear, for both men and women. Moreover, the reports list the market shares, retail pricing and inventory levels of virtually every apparel manufacturer (see companies listed on pg. 2), as well as define the market leaders in every category. Also included in the reports are graphs to help manufacturers analyze the market and their standings. For the January-November 2010 time period, key general findings include:
Men’s On-Off Course Golf Apparel
• For men’s shirts, including short and long sleeve, the average retail price shirt sold at On-Course locations was $51.10, while the average retail price at Off-Course locations was $34.89. Overall, men’s shirts were the best selling item making up 52.3% of total dollars spent On-Course and 34.2% of total dollars spent Off-Course.
• In regards to men’s tops, which include sweaters, vests and fleeces, the average retail price sold was $72.07 at On-Course locations, while the average retail price at Off-Course locations was $39.39. Overall, men’s tops made up 9% of the total dollars spent at On-Course locations, and in contrast, only 2.8% of the total dollars spent at Off-Course locations.
• The average retail price of men’s bottoms, including pants and shorts sold, was $48.06 at On-Course locations, while the average retail price at Off-Course locations was $45.94. Overall, men’s bottoms made up only 5% of total dollars spent at On-Course locations, while at Off-Course locations, men’s bottoms made up 19.4% of total dollars spent.
Women’s On-Off Course Golf Apparel
• For women’s shirts, including short and long sleeve, the average retail price shirt sold was $44.25 at On-Course locations while the average retail price at Off-Course locations was $36.99. Overall, women’s shirts made up 12.8% of total dollars spent On-Course, while at Off-Course locations, women’s shirts made up 14.4% of total dollars spent.
• In regards to women’s tops, which include sweaters, vests and fleeces, the average retail price top sold was $62.14 at On-Course locations while the average retail price top sold was $45.59 at Off-Course locations. Overall, women’s tops made up 12.4% of total dollars spent at On-Course locations and a comparable 12.1% of total dollars spent at Off-Course locations.
• The average retail price of women’s bottoms was $51.53 at On-Course locations while at Off-Course locations, the average retail price was comparable at $51.74. Overall, women’s bottoms made up 5% of total dollars spent at On-Course locations and 15.4% of total dollars spent at Off-Course locations.
