(FORT WORTH, TX) – UST Mamiya – maker of the world’s finest carbon fiber golf-club shafts – has opened its TourSPX™ Technology Generation Laboratory (TourSPX Lab), a one-of-a-kind research facility dedicated to the continued development of the world’s most advanced, high-performance golf products.
Located within company headquarters in Fort Worth, TX, the TourSPX Lab is the nation’s preeminent golf equipment “think tank” where every single day new products come to life and are tested by some of the best players in the world.
Overseen by Michael Guerrette, UST Mamiya Senior Director of Research & Development and Tour Operations, the TourSPX Lab uses state-of-the-art technology and PGA Tour player feedback to create new and exciting breakthroughs which continue to push the performance envelope.
“TourSPX is established to push the limits of conceptual thinking regarding golf-shaft technology,” says Gene Simpson, Chief Operating Officer of UST Mamiya. “This autonomous performance development laboratory is where new ideas are developed, tested and evaluated by the world’s best players.”
“The goal is to apply what we learn from exhaustive research and real-world testing, then take it to the marketplace,” says Guerrette. “While not every concept generated by TourSPX team will become a product in the real world, each design does provide a valuable building block of knowledge that may very well lead to the next big thing.”
The TourSPX Lab is only the first phase of the concept. This summer, UST Mamiya will roll out a Certification and Competitive Analysis platform to facilitate development of a qualified TourSPX Dealer network. An in-house, Swing-Fit® Studio will soon follow along with the launch of a comprehensive Custom Shop to produce handcrafted, one-off, made-to-spec shafts exclusively for Tour players.
Likened to the precision of Lexus automobiles, all UST Mamiya carbon-fiber shafts are made using handcrafted, repeatable production techniques that incorporate world-class engineering and premium-selected raw materials. This combines with tight tolerances, constant taper design and low-resin content to enhance feel during the golf swing. UST Mamiya shafts have remained the top-selling aftermarket option in the United States the past four years.
The company produces a variety of shaft models, including the renowned ATTAS and Proforce lines, which have received significant usage on major professional tours internationally. UST Mamiya users have recorded three victories on the PGA Tour this season, as well as securing previous wins on the European, Champions, Nationwide, European Senior and Asian Tours.
Knowing that every golfer who installs a new shaft will also need a grip, UST Mamiya offers a line of premium offerings, with groundbreaking new models being introduced in 2011. They include the Pro DV, Comp DV and ST1 putter grips.
