2011 field day focuses on equipment demonstration, tryout & safety practices
Los Gatos, Calif. – Golf Course Superintendents from clubs and courses throughout Northern California will convene on Monday, May 23, 2011 at La Rinconada Country Club for an Education and Equipment Demo-Tryout Day.
The event will commence with a presentation from Mr. Roger Pocock, owner of Westcott Distribution, who will provide insight on liquid management techniques through the use of pressurized pump systems. He will also address the safe transfer of chemicals in accordance with current California and Federal (EPA and OSHA) regulations. He’ll discuss various pumping systems that control flow, conserve inventory, and precisely measure liquids with emphasis on worker safety and environmental compliance. Pocock’s manufacturing expertise (specifically in the area of hand pumps) spans more than a decade. His company manufactures Goat Throat Pumps, products known for their ability to efficiently and safely transfer liquids and chemicals.
Following Pocock’s presentation vendors from other leading companies will be on-site showcasing their latest innovations and distributing detailed product information. Attendees will experience products firsthand, rotating through six product/equipment demo stations. (Stations 1-2: large and small area mowers, Stations 3-4: aerification and topdressing, Station 5: miscellaneous equipment accessories, Station 6: miscellaneous consumables).
Companies participating in this “Heads Up, Hands On Demo Day” include: Art Wilson Company, J. Arnaz Tree Movers, John Deere Golf, Mid Cal Tractor, Organic Farms/Foster Farms, Sierra Pacific Turf Supply Inc., Turf and Industrial Equipment Company, Turf Star, TMT Enterprises Inc., and West Coast Turf.
“Golf course superintendents are in search of equipment, products, and accessories that increase efficiency and improve turf quality,” said Rodney Muller, GCSANC education committee chair and event organizer. “I’ve been to a lot of field day trials over the years but this one is slated to be something totally different. We are taking a hands-on, head-to-head approach, and we anticipate the day to be highly enlightening and informative.”
Field Day attendees will also have a chance to experience La Rinconada Country Club, a challenging course nestled in Los Gatos, Calif. (in the foothills of Silicon Valley) and pristinely maintained by John Pina, event host and former GCSANC director.
The 2011 Field Day provides participants with .1 GCSAA CEU and 2 hours of California DPR (Laws & Regulations 1, Other 1).
