National organization advocates sun protection for junior golfers
El Segundo, CA – TGA Premier Junior Golf, one of the leading initiatives committed to growing the game of golf through its nationally-based after-school golf enrichment program is partnering with Sun SafeTee® to help elevate awareness on the importance of sun protection for junior golfers.
Sun SafeTee will supply TGA with key educational materials for students and their families year round. Additionally, the Sun SafeTee sun skin awareness program will be incorporated into TGA’s after-school enrichment program and summer camp curriculum.
“With the increasing rate of skin cancer and the amount of time golfers spend in the sun, we believe that Sun SafeTee is a perfect partner for TGA as we communicate this message across the nation to our young students and their parents,” said Joshua Jacobs, founder and CEO of TGA Premier Junior Golf. “Forming this partnership with Sun SafeTee will create a healthier lifestyle for our students in their quest to become avid golfers.”
The Sun SafeTee Program’s mission is to teach sun protection strategies to the golf community and to provide opportunities for the early detection of skin cancer. In addition to supplying educational materials, Sun SafeTee will also attend the annual TGA National Convention and work closely with franchisees to help them better understand the importance of sun protection and how to effectively communicate the message through their programs.
Mark Wishner, an avid golfer, and skin cancer survivor started the Sun SafeTee Program when he noticed there was an obvious lack of resources available to golfers about the dangerous effects of the sun. Seeking the support of dermatologists Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick and Dr. Curt Littler (son of PGA Tour Player and U.S. Open Champion Gene Littler) Sun SafeTee was created. Wishner now devotes his time educating the golf community, especially junior golfers on the importance of protecting themselves from the sun’s UV rays.
“The issue of sun protection is important for all golfers and especially for junior golfers,” said Wishner, who now serves as president of the Sun SafeTee proÌâåÂgram. “Since sun exposure is cumulative, adopting good sun protection strategies at an early age is critical. Sun SafeTee appreciates TGA’s forward thinking and is proud to partner with them to help deliver the message of sun protection and skin cancer prevention to TGA students and their families.”
