LEBANON, Pa. (June 27, 2011) – Stacy Bonos, Ph.D., a turfgrass breeder in the Rutgers University plant biology and pathology department, will discuss attributes and challenges associated with managing various varieties of bentgrass in a webinar presented by LebanonTurf and hosted by TurfNet.
The free webinar – titled “Primer on Bentgrass Breeding” – is scheduled from 2 – 3:30 p.m. EDT on Tuesday. The webinar has been approved for 0.15 GCSAA education points. Superintendents and others may register by going to Turfnet.com and clicking on Features.
Bonos will focus on issues associated with breeding and selecting various types of bentgrass, including creeping bentgrass, colonial bentgrass and velvet bentgrass. She also will discuss disease resistance issues, treatment options, tolerance issues, irrigation needs and how turf selection influences nutritional input requirements.
“Selecting the most appropriate varieties of bentgrass for your particular course and effectively managing bentgrass has been made more challenging by the severe weather conditions we’ve experienced lately,” said Murray Wingate, turfgrass sales and marketing manager for LebanonTurf. “In this webinar, Dr. Bonos will share some of the latest research to help superintendents counter these challenges and develop more effective management practices.”
