St. Augustine, Fla. (June 27, 2011) – The First Tee, the youth development organization that teaches life skills and builds character using golf as a platform, has partnered with Sun SafeTee® to promote sun safety to the youth involved in The First Tee programs.
Earlier this year, The First Tee introduced Nine Healthy Habits™, a list of nine health and wellness topics presented as part of The First Tee programs. The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits were created in collaboration with the ANNIKA Foundation and Florida Hospital for Children. World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam serves as The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits spokesperson.
“The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits provide a holistic approach to wellness, focusing on the physical, emotional and social well being of today’s young people,” said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., chief executive of The First Tee. “We appreciate that experts in the field of health and wellness-like Sun SafeTee-are partnering with us, ultimately providing the young people we serve with relevant and important information related to their health.”
Sun SafeTee is a non-profit sun protection and skin cancer awareness program designed specifically for the golf community.
Through the partnership, Sun SafeTee is providing The First Tee relevant content, as well as education at various adult trainings over the next few years. They will also serve as a resource for The First Tee curriculum specialists.
“Sun SafeTee is proud to be designated as the National Sun Protection Content Provider to The First Tee and to be part of The First Tee’s Nine Healthy Habits,” said Mark Wishner, founder of the Sun SafeTee Program. “By joining together in this initiative, our organizations can successfully deliver the life-saving message of sun protection at an age where we can make a difference in the lives of youth and have a real impact in a healthy way.”
The Nine Healthy Habits, formatted for easy understanding and learning by elementary-age students and chapter participants, are: energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family, friends, school and community. The First Tee will be introducing new content in its programs throughout the year under the Nine Healthy Habits umbrella.
