August 31, 2011; Phoenix, Arizona — PING’s new G20™ driver and Anser® Milled putter were used to win the recent Champions and Nationwide tour events, the company announced. Mark Calcavecchia employed the G20 driver and an Anser Milled putter to win The Boeing Classic, where he was T1 in average driving distance at 307.8 yards. Kirk Triplett relied on the G20 driver, fairway woods and hybrids in capturing the News Sentinel Open.
Calcavecchia and Triplett are part of a large and growing percentage of PING pros who have switched to the G20 driver, including Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Angel Cabrera. Mahan and Cabrera are among many staff players using one of seven new Anser Milled putters.
“We’re thrilled to see the G20 driver and Anser Milled putter contributing to our players’ success,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “At the tour level, every technological edge is critical, and both the G20 and Anser Milled putters offer performance benefits that have made an immediate impact on the game’s best players.”
In the G20 driver, external weighting in the large, forgiving head helps launch the ball high with low spin for maximum distance and accuracy by optimizing the CG location. PING’s proprietary high-balance-point shaft enables the golfer to swing a clubhead with more mass at the same speed, creating a higher MOI and generating faster ball speeds for long, straight drives. The G20 is PING’s first driver to be built with Ti 8-1-1, a titanium alloy that helps improve the weighting to better optimize the entire clubhead.
“From a fitting standpoint, we optimized the performance of the G20 driver by offering two versions of our high-balance-point shaft,” Solheim said. “Players can select the higher-launching standard TFC 169D shaft or the slightly heavier, lower-launching TFC 169D Tour version to achieve the launch characteristics that give them the best results.”
PING’s introduction of its Anser Milled Series coincides with its new Fit for Stroke™ putter-fitting concept. The company offers seven new models to fit more stroke types and style preferences. Fully machined using 303 stainless steel, each Anser Milled putter features subtle variations to the top lines, heel-toe length and toe radius to make them distinct.
The seven models feature various hosel designs that determine each putter’s balance. Colored shaft labels identify which stroke type the model is designed for. The Anser 5 is built for straight strokes and has a blue shaft label; Anser, Anser 1, Anser 2 and Anser 3 are balanced for slight arcs and have a green label; Anser 4 and Anser 6 fit players with a strong arc and display a red label.
“Our research shows that improving consistency is the key to making more putts, and we do that by matching the putter’s balance with the golfer’s stroke type,” Solheim said. “In the Anser Milled Series we’ve updated the classic Anser design and given golfers seven options so that every golfer can find a model that fits their eye and their stroke so they can make a lot more putts.”
