PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, September 8, 2011 – The EWGA Champions Cup is a new women’s amateur team match play competition conducted by the EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Women’s Association). The two stages of competition include four regional qualifiers, with 36 holes of singles match play completed over two days. The winning 12 women teams will advance to the 36 hole national championship for the EWGA Champions Cup to be held at the Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida on November 11- 13, 2011.
“We are excited to offer EWGA members a new competition where they can test their game against other members throughout their region and the country,” says Stephanie Jennings, EWGA Director of Golf Programs. “We are confident that participation in the Champions Cup will grow each year, giving the EWGA another premier competition for our members.” During last year’s pilot event, The Champions Cup hosted 96 players (8 teams of 12) representing EWGA Chapters geographically located in the Northeastern United States, from Rochester, NY to Washington DC. In its full scale introduction this year, 325 players are participating.
To qualify to play in the Champions Cup, a EWGA member must have an established USGA handicap index of 25.0 or less. Twelve player teams are formed from participating chapter members with the lowest handicaps. Chapters with less than 12 eligible players will be combined to form a complete team.
