NBC Sports Group Presents More Than 50 Hours Of Live Event And News Coverage Of The 2011 Presidents Cup

November 10, 2011

All four rounds from Australia live on Golf Channel; NBC to air 14 hours of coverage on weekend; David Feherty joins news and tournament coverage as contributing analyst; “The U.S. team has only lost the Cup once, and that was right here at Royal Melbourne.” — Golf Channel analyst Curt Byrum; “If Tiger and Phil aren’t sharp early, the U.S. team will really feel some heat.” – Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 9, 2011 — The NBC Sports Group will surround fans next week with coverage from The Presidents Cup 2011, including 51 ½ hours of match-play action both on Golf Channel – which will carry all four rounds live for the first time – and NBC, as well as 22 hours of wrap-around news and analysis on Golf Channel and GolfChannel.com all week from Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia.

Despite Melbourne’s 16-hour difference from the Eastern Time zone, Golf Channel will provide 28 ½ hours of live coverage of all four rounds – much of it in prime time – beginning at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 16 (see schedule below). It will mark the first time that all four rounds of a Presidents Cup competition played outside of North America will be presented live. Golf Channel (Thursday and Friday) and NBC also will combine to show 23 hours of re-packaged coverage for replay.

Handling the majority of play-by-play and lead analysis for Golf Channel coverage will be Terry Gannon and Curt Byrum, with Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller contributing on Days Three and Four for both Golf Channel and NBC. Also joining the coverage will be Gary Koch, Roger Maltbie, Dottie Pepper and David Feherty. Jimmy Roberts will conduct interviews and produce his signature essays, and Tim Rosaforte will offer news and notes.

Golf Channel also will televise The Presidents Cup Opening Ceremony, Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 a.m. ET.

Live From The Presidents Cup: Golf Channel will televise 22 live hours of news coverage surrounding the matches – including player news conferences – in the form of Live From The Presidents Cup, originating both from Melbourne and the network’s Orlando studios.

On site at Royal Melbourne will be Live From The Presidents Cup host Steve Sands, analysts David Feherty and Curt Byrum, and reporter Todd Lewis. Kelly Tilghman and Whit Watson will anchor Live From coverage from Orlando, with analysts Brandel Chamblee and Charlie Rymer, reporter Rich Lerner (who also will share hosting duties) and Insider John Hawkins.

24-Hour Coverage Online: GolfChannel.com and NBCSports.com will provide fans with comprehensive news, scores and features surrounding The Presidents Cup. Senior Writer Rex Hoggard will lead the coverage with daily reports, blogs, features and analysis from Royal Melbourne. Digital coverage also will include bio capsules of each team member and both captains.

Daily Diary from Assistant Captain Nobilo: Frank Nobilo – who will be taking time out as a Golf Channel analyst to serve as International Team assistant captain to Greg Norman – will share his post-match thoughts daily with Golf Channel.com readers.

Presidents Cup Headlines Strong Fourth Quarter: Coming off its most-watch PGA TOUR Fall Series ever, Golf Channel’s coverage of The Presidents Cup highlights a strong November tournament lineup that features established stars like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and young phenoms like Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson. This week, Tiger Woods and most of the USA Presidents Cup team will compete in the Emirates Australian Open live in primetime, while Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els tee it up at the Barclays Singapore Open. Also, the LPGA Tour returns to Mexico this week with an elite field of 36 players at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, and follows next week by the season-ending CME Group Titleholders. Following The Presidents Cup, International Team captain Greg Norman, 2011 Open Championship winner Darren Clarke and Bubba Watson will compete in the Australian PGA Championship (Nov. 24-27), while Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Martin Kaymer and Ian Poulter join an elite field at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup (Nov. 23-26).
