SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (January 10, 2012) – The 2012 Gateway Pro Tour season gets underway this week at McCormick Ranch with a two-day, 36-hole Sponsorship Event on Jan. 10 and 11. Nearly 90 players have signed up for this special tournament that will award the winner free entry into all 12 Arizona Winter regular season Gateway Pro Tour events in 2012.
“The Sponsorship Event is a great way to kick off the GPT season,” said Ryan Pray, Executive Director of the Gateway Pro Tour. “We have a great turnout for this event once again and look forward to getting the 2012 campaign started.”
The GPT regular season will tee it up the following week with a 54-hole tournament at Anthem Golf and Country Club (Persimmon), Jan. 17-19. This is the first of a three-tournament slate to start the season that will be included in the first “Points Race” of the year. The cumulative points leader for these three events will earn an exemption to the Nationwide Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am, set to be played May 17-20 in Greer, South Carolina. ONLY GPT members are eligible to participate in the Nationwide Tour exemption Points Race.
The other two tournaments included in the first “Points Race” of the year will be played at Anthem’s Ironwood Course (Jan. 23-25) and Raven Golf Club at Verrado (Jan. 31-Feb. 2).
This is the first of four planned “Points Races” the GPT will hold throughout the 2012 Arizona Winter Series season, which will award a total of two Nationwide Tour exemptions and two Q-School bonuses during the year. The second Nationwide Tour exemption Points Race will be conducted during Winter Series Tournaments 10-12, while the two Q-School Bonuses will be awarded during tournaments 4-6 and 7-9.
Memberships for the 2012 season are still being accepted, with the cost of the membership fee only $1,500. All memberships are good Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2012. GPT members receive some great benefits, including reduced tournament fees, eligibility for Nationwide Tour exemptions and Q-School bonuses, flexible schedule and payment options, preferred tournament entry fees, complimentary practice rounds, and manufacturer and vendor discounts.
“Memberships are already up from last year, and we are expecting a great turnout for the Winter Series,” Pray said. “We have always offered some great incentives to our members, and this year is no different.”
Additional membership information and tournament pricing can be found on the Gateway Pro Tour website (www.gatewayprotour.com), or if you are ready to apply for membership, you can do so online at http://gatewayprotour.com/arizona-tournament/entry-info/.
We are excited about kicking-off our 11th season and seeing what 2012 has in store for our players. Remember, the deadline for the first event of the year at Anthem is Monday, Jan. 9. Good luck to those of you vying for the 12 free Arizona Winter Series entries at next week’s Sponsorship event, and best of luck to everyone as we embark on another fantastic year on the Gateway Pro Tour!
