SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation had several employees volunteer at the Operation Healthy Kids Wild About Wellness event at Richmond Senior High School last week. In addition to year-round support of Operation Healthy Kids, this event was the finale of a yearlong program that focuses on teaching kids about health and wellness through classroom learning. During the event, nearly 700 kindergarteners were introduced to the game of golf and its health benefits by the Golf Pride staff.
Operation Healthy Kids began in 2004 and is making a positive impact. Since its inception, all Richmond County elementary school teachers have received health and wellness training. To date children in kindergarten through third grade have a prevailing obesity rate of 25 percent or lower with a strong positive trend for normal weight and a declining trend for obesity. The prevalence of obesity in the overall North Carolina population is 30.1 percent.
North Carolinians represent Eaton’s largest employment population with over 3,800 employees and 11 locations. The partnership between the Richmond County Health Department, Healthy Carolinians and Golf Pride provides a positive outreach opportunity for promoting health and wellness to children of all backgrounds. The First Tee of the Sandhills also showed their support by donating equipment to Golf Pride to introduce the game to a population of kids that had never experienced it before.
