(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) — Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday — the Grand Strand’s golf marketing cooperative –announces 2500 entries are in for its GOLF.com World Amateur Handicap Championship, setting a pace to reach a 3000 participant milestone.
Held Aug. 27 – 31, the 29th annual event features golfers from 25 countries and all 50 United States. The event is contested on 50-plus acclaimed Grand Strand layouts including the Norman, Fazio and Dye courses at Barefoot Resort, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, True Blue Golf Plantation, TPC Myrtle Beach and King’s North at Myrtle Beach National.
Special registration for the four-day, 72-hole event is $475 through June 21, a $75 savings off of the regular entry fee of $550. Registration is available at www.worldamgolf.com.
The entry fee includes daily tournament golf and complete access to “The World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The extravaganza highlights include a vast golf exposition, equipment demos, entertainment, open bars, concerts, prize drawings and food from fine area restaurants.
Golf funnyman / network analyst David Feherty, short game guru Dave Pelz, Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer, and Sports Illustrated Golf Group’s editorial team are among the noted golf celebrities appearing in the recent past.
“The World Am is one of the largest and most popular amateur golf events on Earth,” says Jeff Monday, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director. “With men and women from all over the globe teeing it up in competition on our array of high-caliber courses, the winner is a true international champion.”
World Am participants are flighted based on gender, age and handicap index. The tournament is comprised of approximately 70 flights and all flight winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff where a champion is crowned. The event’s inclusiveness is apparent in its past champions as winners with handicaps as low as three and as high as 34 have won. Four women have hoisted the championship trophy.
