Sonoma, CA- The 2012 Clifford & Myrtle Wagoner Scholarship & Research Fundraising Tournament is set for Mon. July 2 at Sonoma Golf Club. Hosted by the Northern California Chapter of the GCSAA, the event benefits turfgrass research and scholarships.

The tournament, which includes breakfast, boxed lunch, post-round hors d’oeuvre reception and silent auction, is open to golf course superintendents, turfcare representatives and allied golf industry professionals. Registration is set for 7:30 a.m. with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start (played in a 4-person team, two-person better ball format). Entry fee is $125.00 per player, or $450.00 per foursome. For non-golfers who want to support the cause and enjoy lunch, an hors d’oeuvre reception and auction activities only, that option is available.

The silent auction will include an array of interesting items including tickets to major sporting events, golf equipment, autographed sports memorabilia, rounds of golf at top-ranked Northern California golf courses plus stay & play golf packages.

“Our association continues to support turfgrass research projects and scholarship opportunities for those in need,” stated GCSANC President Rodney Muller, “and this year five worthy individuals are receiving scholarships. We will also make a donation to the California Turfgrass & Landscape Foundation (CT&LF) to help support the research work of Dr. James Baird being conducted in Northern California.” Dr. Baird is a highly respected turfgrass specialist with the University of California, Riverside.

Now in its fifth year, the fundraising tournament and auction continues to be a popular event amongst golf course superintendents and suppliers. It was founded in tribute to GCSANC Past President Clifford Wagoner, and his wife, Myrtle, both long-time supporters of the Northern California Chapter of the GCSAA. The 2012 Clifford & Myrtle Wagoner Scholarship & Research Fundraising Tournament has the sponsorship support of Mid Cal Tractor and John Deere.
