Benefiting the American Cancer Society and other initiatives focusing on cancer prevention
(East Hampton, New York – May 1, 2013) – Sports radio and television personality, talk show host and journalist Ann Liguori is hosting the The Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic on Monday, May 20, 2013 at The Bridge in Bridgehampton, New York, benefiting the American Cancer Society and other important initiatives focusing on cancer prevention.
For 15 years, Ann’s tournament has been one of the most popular charity golf tournaments on Long Island, and was the only celebrity golf tournament in The Hamptons for years. Liguori, a Westhampton, New York resident, hosts the golf tourney every year at one of East End’s prestigious courses. “We are fortunate to have a plethora of top courses on the East End that attract golfers from around the world,” says Liguori. “Each year, we have a nice mix of regulars who play in the charity tournament, along with first-time visitors who come in from various parts of the world to support the Foundation and play the spectacular courses in this area.”
The charity tournament has been held at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton three of the last four years and two years ago, the tournament was held at Sebonack which is hosting the U.S. Women’s Open, June 24-30. This year, the host course is The Bridge, a challenging Rees Jones design with spectacular views of the Peconic Bay.
The Ann Liguori Foundation was created to help a variety of organizations that focus on cancer care, prevention and research. Ann lost her father to cancer when she was in college and her 22-year-old brother to leukemia a year and a half later. Since that tragic time in her life, she has made a commitment to do all she can to raise money and awareness to fight the dreaded disease.
“Along with my broadcasting career, raising money and awareness for such an important mission has been a huge priority in my life,” says Liguori. “Giving back is very satisfying and thanks to the countless people who donate their time, money and support, we make a difference every year in the fight against cancer.”
The core of the Foundation’s initiative is educating young people about the importance of good nutrition as a cancer preventative. Each year, the Foundation brings in a nutrition education expert, Jill Jayne, to conduct entertaining and educational assemblies for young people.
