EWGA Announces The Names Of The Latest Troon Golf Club Hole-In-One Members

September 30, 2013

The chances of hitting a hole-in-one, for the average handicap golfer, are approximately 12,000 to 1. Today, the EWGA announced the names of twenty members who recently beat those odds and recorded an ace during an EWGA sanctioned event and earned a complimentary round of golf at participating Troon Golf facilities within the United States. Program details are posted in the members’ only area at ewga.com.

“One of our more recent holes-in-one was recorded by Karen Johnson from the Atlanta, Georgia Chapter,” reports EWGA CEO Pam Swensen. Johnson was playing a practice round for the EWGA Championship Finals. She was on the 4th Hole of the Patriot Course at the Wigwam Resort. From 135 yards out with a 5 iron, Karen hit her ball, but didn’t see it go in. “I was looking all over for it when my friend called out to me, ‘Karen, you just hit a hole in one!’ I jumped and cheered, but I didn’t even get to see it go in!” says Johnson. This was Karen’s first hole-in-one ever. “I didn’t see it go in and it was during a practice round, but nonetheless, it was still very exciting!”

Diane Darnall, a member of the Orlando, Florida chapter, shares her hole-in-one experience along with an insightful message. She recalls playing in an “EWGA Nine and Dine League” on a Saturday morning at Marriott Grande Vista. On this particular morning, she decided to play it forward one tee box. “I am not a long hitter and this was a particularly vexing Par 3 with a long carry over water. I rarely had gotten over the water, never mind on the green so it was particularly sweet to put it in the hole on that one,” says Darnall. When asked for her advice to other women who aspire to improve their chances of a hole-in-one, “Short hitters should “tee it forward!” says Diane, “it worked for me!”

Dottie Dube, a member and President of the Middle Tennessee Chapter, remembers her hole-in-one a bit differently. Playing in the Midwest Semi-finals at the Robert Trent Jones Hampton Cove- Highlands in Alabama, Dube hit her second hole-in-one in her life. “I was on hole #11 and it was a blind shot from 108 yards out. When I hit the ball, the other ladies I was playing with said ‘I think that went in.’ I just kept saying that there was no way. I walked up to the green and sure enough the ball was in the hole,” says Dottie. “It was just one of those great shots.”
