(OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.) – Tom Hoch – the category leader in integrated masterplan, design and build solutions – has been selected to create a masterplan for the 40,000 square-foot clubhouse at storied Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
The Hoch team will provide Starmount Forest a platform for future growth and vitality by responding to current and future demographic, social and economic trends. The club’s rich tradition and colorful history will be artfully-blended with modern amenities for families, women and members of all ages.
“Tom Hoch was the clear choice to balance the needs of today’s members with services and programming to attract future ones,” says Tim Mervosh, Starmount Forest General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. “The firm uses a holistic approach including not only the clubhouse interior, but the exterior and surrounding site as well.”
Highlights of the Starmount Forest project include a new high-energy / exhibition kitchen, relocation of the member dining area to overlook the golf course, a smoothie, ice cream and soda bar with grab-and-go offerings, authentic pub grill in basement near the golf shop, as well as golf shop and locker room renovations.
For kids of all ages, a new 18-hole putting green will be installed near the family dining area and swimming pool. Adult members will delight in a new “Adults Only” lounge with stunning views of the golf course’s 9th hole. Renovations to the pool area will enhance social relevancy and better link the site to family dining.
“There will be something for everyone at Starmount Forest,” says Hoch. “We envision the clubhouse as a home away from home, a place to live work, work out, and especially, to play.”
Starmount Forest was founded in 1930 and is located on a thickly-wooded 155 acres just west of downtown Greensboro. Its original 18-hole layout was designed by Wayne Styles and John Van Kleek with consultation from legendary golf course architect Perry Maxwell. It was remodeled in 1970 by George Cobb and in 1999, totally rebuilt by Lester George. Starmount Forest hosted the first Greater Greensboro open in 1938, won by Sam Snead, and the 1947 U.S. Women’s Open.
Other high-profile U.S. and international Tom Hoch projects include: Marriott’s Camelback Mountain; Slammer and Squire at World Golf Village; The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain (Marana, Ariz.); The Members’ Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota (Fla.); Renaissance Golf Club (Mass.); TPC Valencia (Calif.); Zavidovo Golf and Lake Resort (Russia); and Tulsa Country Club (Okla).
