CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 16, 2014) – Troon North, the Scottsdale, Ariz., facility that spawned the development of the world’s largest golf course management company, has been named the winner of the NGCOA’s 2014 Jemsek Award for Golf Course Excellence.
The NGCOA will present the award, which recognizes courses that are widely known for their superior quality and worldwide appeal, on Feb. 5 at its Annual Conference in Orlando.
Imposing boulder formations, cacti and all manner of wildlife are nature’s complements to Troon North’s manicured testament to target golf. Known for their outstanding conditioning and desert scenery, the Monument and Pinnacle courses at Troon North host approximately 80,000 rounds a year.
An equally important reason golfers from around the world return to Troon North year after year is the “culture of hospitality” that’s designed to exceed expectations. The 130-person staff is dedicated to creating lasting memories of the quintessential desert golf experience.
After opening the Monument course in 1990, Troon Golf founder Dana Garmany established the management company that now oversees operations at more than 200 daily fee, resort and private properties located in 32 states and 27 countries.
At its Celebration Dinner and Awards Gala, the NGCOA also will recognize winners of the Award of Merit for long-term contributions to the game, the Don Rossi Award for significant contributions to the NGCOA, the Champion Award for service to course owners at the local level, the Player Development Award for success in attracting new players to the game, the Paul Porter Award for commitment, service and leadership to a chapter or international affiliate and the Course of the Year.
Jack Nicklaus was previously announced as the Award of Merit winner. The Award of Merit is the NGCOA’s longest-running award and is designated for long-term and significant contributions to the game of golf.
The NGCOA’s Annual Conference is the golf industry’s largest gathering of owners and operators of daily fee, private, resort and municipal courses. The conference, which will be held Feb. 3-6, offers educational and networking opportunities and guest speakers. NGCOA members and non-members can register for the conference at www.ngcoa.org/conference.
The conference occurs in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show, Feb. 5-6, at the Orange County Convention Center. The show, which is presented by the NGCOA and GCSAA, showcases the golf industry’s latest products and services and offers a wide range of educational opportunities.
