CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 27, 2014) – A Nippon Shaft player using the company’s N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 steel shafts with an X flex in his irons fired a flawless final round and won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters over the weekend on the third hole of a sudden death playoff.

The champion 34-year-old Spaniard fired a spectacular final round 7-under par 65 to finish at 16-under for the tournament then made three straight birdies in the playoff (all on the 18th hole) while his opponent could only manage a par on their final hole.

His 11th European PGA Tour title moved him into the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking, where he now sits at No. 9. His last victory came in December at the Thailand Golf Championship, but his most recent European Tour win was in 2011.

“Nippon Shaft is very proud to be the preferred steel shaft of one of the world’s best players,” said Hiro Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for the Japanese club maker. “He seems to feel very comfortable with his MODUS3 Tour 130 steel shafts, and we wish him continued success.”

Nippon Shaft experts have spent years traveling with the PGA TOUR getting player feedback and input in order to develop shafts that fit the needs of high-level golfers as well as amateurs.

Nippon Shaft has a rich history when it comes to designing and producing lightweight steel shafts. In 1999, the company introduced the 95-gram N.S. PRO 950GH shaft, which became one of the most popular shafts in the world.

In addition to its success with average golfers, the 950GH was – and remains – one of the most popular shafts on the LPGA Tour, where it has been the shaft of choices for hundreds of winners on the world’s most prestigious women’s pro tour.

In recent years, Nippon Shaft has successfully expanded its product line to include shafts designed for PGA TOUR professionals and low-handicap amateurs.

Over the years, Nippon Shaft recorded hundreds of victories on professional golf tours worldwide, as the best players in the world increasingly chose to install in their irons steel shafts manufactured in Japan to unparalleled quality standards.

Nippon Shaft products are available globally either as stock or custom shafts in many of the world’s top iron brands. In addition, Nippon Shaft products are available through Nippon Shaft’s dedicated global clubfitter network. Details of these can be found at www.nipponshaft.com

Nippon Shaft manufactures all of its steel and graphite shafts in a state-of-the-art factory in Komagane, Japan. The company’s integrated production lines are strictly monitored and controlled with thorough checks conducted responsibly through the entire production process. As a result, Nippon Shaft is able to control high product quality – from material selection to final testing.

Nippon Shaft has more than 100 professional victories worldwide. Based in Yokohama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia.

Nippon Shaft is a privately-held subsidiary of NHK Spring Co. LTD, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Carlsbad.
