WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Feb. 26, 2014) – They won’t be Redcoats with muskets or Colonists in three-cornered hats, but members of the military will do battle at Colonial Williamsburg’s Golden Horseshoe Golf Club when it hosts its Spring Military Invitational tournament March 15 and 16. The annual 36-hole event will be played on the historic destination’s Gold and Green Courses.
Open to the public, the Military Invitational welcomes two-person amateur teams that include at least one active-duty, retired, or reserve military or National Guard member. Advance registration is $295 per team and must be received by March 11, 2014.
Colonial Williamsburg’s Williamsburg Inn and Golden Horseshoe Golf Club recently received the prestigious GOLF magazine Premier Resort Gold Medal for 2014-2015, continuing its time honored position among elite golf resorts throughout North America.
The Gold Course, built by master golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1963, celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2013. The adjacent Green Course, designed in 1998 by Rees Jones, teams with the Gold as one of the first father-son golf layouts. The nine-hole Spotswood Course rounds out Colonial Williamsburg’s historic links offerings.
Revenue from golf play on the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s three public courses supports The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, keeping this vital piece of American history alive and thriving.
