ATLANTIS, Fla. – Team Golf is a couple short days away from kicking off the second season in South Florida. The program has expanded over the last year and includes more teams, kids, and opportunities to grow the game of golf. Close to 40 teams will take part in Team Golf this summer, reaching six separate regions and over 30 facilities across the Section. A total of 35 individual, 9-hole tournaments are scheduled to be played.
What is Team Golf all about? Team Golf is the “Little League” approach to golf in a structured setting that provides for a more popular, less stressful approach to competition and tournament play. The program is designed for kids ages 6-14 with little to no golf experience. Golf instruction and team practices are provided by local PGA Professionals serving as team coaches at public and private golf facilities throughout South Florida. Tournaments are co-ed, two-person scrambles playing 9-holes. Similar to other youth sports, participants play in matching team colored uniforms.
In 2013, 19 teams and roughly 200 participants were involved with the program in the South Florida Section. PGA Head Golf Professional at Jonathan’s Landing, Neil Lockie, is a Team Golf Coach and has this to say, “Teams Golf has provided a true rapid, extensive growth of the game. Since last year, the program has expanded here at Jonathan’s Landing and the kids have really taken ownership of the team. You can see the players enjoying themselves and having fun at getting better. I have never been involved with something so gratifying. It is a great way to introduce kids to the game in a very short period of time.”
Participants in Team Golf are part of an exciting approach to learning and having FUN on the golf course. For more information about Team Golf, please contact Tyler Wolford at 561-729-0544 or twolford@pgahq.com. You can also learn more online at www.sfpgajuniorgolf.com.
