Rare feat believed to be a Massachusetts record
Haverhill, Massachusetts – July 28, 2014 – The 9th Annual Renaissance Men’s Invitational made history last Sunday when three players made holes-in-one not just on the same day, but at the exact same stage of the tournament. All three players made their aces during the 7th and deciding matches of this 2-man, round-robin, member-guest event-and one of the player’s aces actually decided his team’s match on its final hole.
Recording the holes-in-one were:
-John Gagnon (Renaissance member from Reading, MA) on hole 17, the first hole of his match, 168 yards, with a 5-hybrid;
-Peter Lucier (guest, of Fernandina Beach, FL) on hole 17, the eighth hole of his team’s match, 168 yards, with a 5-iron;
-Paul Howard (Renaissance member from Haverhill, MA) on hole 4, the final hole of his team’s match, 189 yards, with a 2-hybrid. Howard’s ace clinched the match for his team in dramatic fashion.
The event, which is Renaissance’s premier men’s event of the year, featured 112 players on 56 teams-seven flights of eight teams each.
About Renaissance Golf Club
Located on 210 acres adjacent to the majestic Merrimack River in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the Club at Renaissance is a facility without equal on the North Shore. One of New England’s finer private golf clubs, Renaissance features Brian Silva’s Signature 18-hole championship golf course, extensive practice facilities and a stately new 30,000-square-foot American Shingle-Style Clubhouse (opened in Fall 2009). The Clubhouse features the Grille Room and private Founders Room, covered Veranda, Fitness Center, 7 luxurious Club Rooms, a Billiards Room, indoor Golf Simulator and Grand Ballroom.
The golf course design takes much inspiration from the great Scottish links of the 19th century as well as landmark American layouts of the 1920’s. The course blends a unique mixture of golf holes ranging from wide open links-style holes with large waste bunkers and fescue-lined rolling fairways to classic New England style tree-lined parkland holes. Alternate routes of play are the order of the day throughout the course. In addition to the golf course, the club features some of the most extensive practice facilities in the area, including a dedicated short game area with three separate green complexes and fairways, a practice fairway with natural and artificial teeing surfaces, two chipping and putting greens, tennis courts and a pool facility.
