Golf Digest also recognized the Dye and Ross courses on its Top 100 Public and Best in State lists
French Lick, IN – The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in southern Indiana, site of the 2015 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, has maintained its status among Golf Digest’s prestigious list of America’s 100 Greatest Courses.
The course was ranked No. 96 among the greatest courses in the publication’s biennial review of America’s greatest courses, which appears in the February 2015 issue.
Established in 1966, Golf Digest’s list is the game’s oldest course rankings list and is considered the leading symbol of golf course excellence in the industry. Golf Digest used over 1,100 members of its Course Ranking Panel and asked each to submit ballots based on seven criteria including shot values, resistance to scoring, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, conditioning, and ambience.
“We are very honored to be recognized once again by Golf Digest as one of America’s 100 Greatest Courses,” said Dave Harner, French Lick Resort’s director of golf. “The ability to stay on this list is a testament to the hard work that our staff goes through to maintain its premier conditioning and design integrity along with creating one of the top golf experiences in the country.”
In addition to being selected among America’s 100 Greatest Courses, The Pete Dye Course, along with the historic Donald Ross Course were also ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses at No. 17 and No. 83 respectively. The publication also ranked Dye No. 3, and Ross No. 6 among the Best in State in Indiana.
The Pete Dye Course is regarded as one of the most breathtaking and challenging 18 holes of golf in the country. The course, which can stretch to over 8,100 yards, was carefully carved on a dramatic hilltop offering a variety of elevation changes, rugged and dramatic terrain, narrow fairways and challenging bunkers. There are spectacular views from every hole, including some that stretch for over 40 miles overlooking the Hoosier National Forest.
The Dye Course has become a popular venue for championships having hosted the 2010 PGA of America’s Professionals National Championship, the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, Indiana Open in 2012, and the LPGA Legends Championships in 2013, 2014. In 2015, the course will play host to the 2015 Senior PGA Championship May 21-24.
