Five other Nippon Shaft players – including the runner up – finish in the top 20
CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 26, 2015) – Nippon Shaft on Sunday (Jan. 25) claimed its third victory in the first 11 tournaments of the 2014-15 PGA TOUR season.
The runner-up and four other top 20 finishers also used Nippon Shaft steel shafts in their irons.
The 31-year-old winner – a former FedEx Cup champion – used Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO MODUS3 PROTO ST X-flex steel shafts in his irons — 3-PW — after switching to Nippon last May. He finished with a total score of 22-under 266 on rounds of 67-63-69-67. It was his sixth PGA TOUR victory – his second at this tournament (2010) – and resulted in a winner’s check worth $1.026 million.
The runner-up, who finished just one shot back, used the same shafts in his irons as the champion. In November, the 38-year-old San Diego native won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba using the Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO MODUS3 PROTO ST X-flex steel shafts in his irons.
Four other top 20 finishers at Humana also used Nippon Shaft products in their irons.
“Nippon Shaft is very proud that such a fine champion chose to use Nippon Shaft’s steel shafts in his irons,” said Hiro Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “We congratulate him and wish him the best for the rest of the season.
“We also congratulate the runner up and the other players who chose to utilize Nippon Shaft in their irons,” Fukuda said.
On Jan. 11, Nippon Shaft recorded its first 2015 victory on the European PGA Tour when a 28-year-old Englishman using Nippon Shaft’s steel shafts in his irons won the South African Open.
In addition to Humana and OHL, Nippon Shaft recorded a PGA TOUR victory at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia in November.
Nippon Shaft recently announced that 70 players on the U.S. and European PGA Tours utilized various models of Nippon Shaft’s steel shafts in their irons and wedges during the 2013-14 season, an increase of 69.5% over the previous year. Fifty-six U.S. PGA TOUR players and 14 European Tour members chose from among five types of Nippon Shaft steel shafts to outfit their irons. Iron shaft models used were the N.S. PRO 950GH, the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130, N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120, N.S. PRO MODUS3 PROTO ST prototype shaft, and N.S. PRO MODUS3 ORA prototype steel shafts.
