Palo Alto, Calif. (April 9, 2015) – Renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. has begun a series of posts on Facebook (Robert Trent Jones II LLC – RTJ2 Golf Design) that offer his one-of-a-kind insider observations, stories, and other details about subjects of crucial importance to golfers worldwide. The most recent post discusses his father’s contributions to the layout at Augusta National, site of this week’s Masters.
In the lead-up to the U.S. Open, to be played June 18-21 at Chambers Bay, designed by Jones Jr.’s firm, Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects, he will provide his laser-sharp expert commentary and personal anecdotes about golf and golf course design, hole-by-hole descriptions of the venue, stories about and strategies for playing Chambers Bay, and much more. He will also describe how the design of the golf course was meant to pay homage to our national championship and the great moments that have occurred in pursuit of it on beloved venues throughout the country. Jones says, “Chambers Bay echoes stories from great Opens held in the past and we hope it will create some great new stories that will be told for years to come.”
In this today’s Facebook post, Jones Jr. writes:
“I’ve been privileged to be coming here for the tournament for a long time. My dad actually created the ponds at the 11th and 16th holes, and moved the green at 13 across the creek, bringing water in as a hazard back in the 1940s… This is great proof that no great championship course is allowed to fully rest, and must respond to changes in the game.”
