VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California Section of the PGA (NCPGA) is pleased to announce that PGA Professional Tracy Stansberry, former Vice President/Treasurer of the NCPGA, has assumed the role of President of the NCPGA. The role was vacated by John Hughes, PGA, who was elected President in 2014. Hughes resigned after having accepted the PGA Head Professional position at Hacienda Golf Club in the Southern California Section.
Per the NCPGA Constitution and By-laws, when a vacancy occurs by the President, the current Vice President assumes the duties of President. In turn, Section Secretary Bill Troyanoski, PGA, will also serve as Vice President/Secretary. A new Secretary will be elected in December of this year.
Stansberry is a PGA Class “A” Golf Professional who has been working, teaching, and competing in the Bay Area for the past twenty-five years. As a player, he has won over 40 professional titles and has established several course records. As an instructor, he has taught thousands of lessons to players of all ages and abilities. Throughout his career, Stansberry has specialized in building Junior Development and Ladies’ Specialty programs. He is committed to the PGA’s goal of “building the game” and making golf enjoyable for players of all levels.
Stansberry’s Role with the PGA
Always a sports fan and athlete, Stansberry started playing golf with friends when he was 12 years old-the game quickly surpassed other sports for him and became his passion. After playing both high school and college golf in San Diego, Stansberry continued to work on his golf game as an amateur.
In 1986 he moved to the Bay Area and in 1990 he joined the PGA. He worked at Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club for 13 years, where he learned the business as an Assistant Professional, Instructor, and Merchandiser. Stansberry was named the Northern California PGA’s Assistant Golf Professional of the Year in 1992. He went on to work as Instructor and Head Professional at Palo Alto Hills Country Club and Mare Island Golf Club. In 2012, he joined Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills where he is currently the Director of Instruction. Stansberry has also become a skilled Rules Official, frequently serving as the Head Rules Official in Northern California professional tournaments.
Since becoming a member of the PGA, Stansberry has been very active within the Section. He served as the President of the Apprentice Assistants’ Association in 1995-96. Over the last decade, he has served as Chairperson of the Tournament Committee, Finance Committee, By-Laws Committee, and Board of Control. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the NCPGA Foundation. Stansberry was elected to the Section Board of Directors in 2008 and was selected to become an Officer in 2012.
Away from the golf course, Stansberry and his wife Linda love to travel and they are avid fans of all of the Bay Area sports teams.
