Event to be held at St. Lucie Trail Golf Club from May 22-24
MIAMI – The American FootGolf League (AFGL), the governing body for the fast-growing sport of FootGolf in the U.S., will be hosting its second 2015 Pro-Am Tournament, the Atlantic FootGolf Cup, at St. Lucie Trail Golf Club (formerly PGA Country Club) in Port St. Lucie from May 22-24. The event will feature
approximately 100 FootGolf players from around the world competing for $17,500.
Players from more than 15 countries, including Puerto Rico, Mexico, Holland, Argentina, Canada, Hungary, Japan, Norway, Italy, Brazil, France, Chile, England and Spain, have registered to participate. The top three American players from the Atlantic FootGolf Cup will qualify to participate in the second edition of the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG) World Cup taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina in January 2016.
“FootGolf continues to be a growing sport both at the recreational and competitive levels,” said Roberto Balestrini, who introduced FootGolf in North America, in 2011. “St. Lucie Trail Golf Club partnered with AFGL to introduce FootGolf last year and we’re pleased to be bringing some of the world’s best players of this new sport to South Florida.”
Florida has emerged as a hotbed for FootGolf with more than 20 facilities statewide officially sanctioned by the AFGL. Recognized by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG) as the exclusive governing body in the United States, the AFGL has now certified more than 400 courses in 47 states.
“We are excited to host the AFGL Pro-Am for the first time at St. Lucie Trail Golf Club. It is a great opportunity to expose Port St. Lucie, our property and FootGolf to a variety of players from around the world” said Jimmy Terry, General Manager, St. Lucie Trail Golf Club. “Hosting the Atlantic FootGolf Cup is a great opportunity for our community, and we’re looking forward to watching the best players in the world compete here.”

A combination of golf and soccer played with a regulation soccer ball on a shortened golf course, FootGolf is played much like golf, with the goal being to get the soccer ball into a 21-inch hole with as few kicks as possible. It is played on golf courses with the 18 holes located near, but not on, the golf putting surfaces.
The AFGL has four Pro-Am Tournaments scheduled for 2015, with total cash prizes of more than $100,000. Following the East Coast events in Miami and Port St. Lucie, West Coast tournaments will take place in August at Meadow Park Golf Course in Tacoma, Wash., and Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
The U.S. Pro-Am FootGolf Tour 2015 will offer American players the opportunity to qualify for the Second Edition of the FootGolf World Cup organized by the world’s governing body for the sport, the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG).
