Orlando, Fla. – George Connor, the owner and director of instruction of the popular ConnorGolf in Avon, Conn., has been named one of the inaugural lead coaches of the newly formed Golf Channel Academy.
A two-time winner of the PGA of America Connecticut Section Teacher of the Year, Connor joins the game’s most influential and recognizable coaches who are coming together to establish a dedicated network of instruction facilities with the active support of Golf Channel, the game’s leading global multimedia and golf entertainment source.
“I am very excited to be among the first teachers associated with the new, dynamic Golf Channel Academy,” said Connor, who has 25 years of experience as a golf instructor. “This is a chance for golf instructors to work together, learning from one another and adopting best practices in both teaching and the business of teaching,” added Connor. “I think it’s going to propel the coaches and coaching forward in a big way.”
Golf Channel Academy is the first network of its kind devoted to efficiently growing the business of golf instruction. With 57 charter locations already committed, Golf Channel Academy will be inviting additional coaches to become part of the network.
Located at Farmington Woods Golf Club, Golf Channel Academy programming will be under the direction of Connor, who specializes in putting and the short game. His students include beginners, juniors, club champions and players on the PGA Latino American Tour, PGA Tour Canada and the European Challenge Tour.
While Connor teaches all aspects of the game, many of his students come to him specifically for his expertise in the mechanics and artistry of putting and the nuances of the short game. Working extensively with elite juniors, a number of Connor’s athletes have gone on to compete collegiately at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels, as well as NAIA schools.
Connor has a PGA specialty certification in teaching and is also certified by New Rules Golf Coach, AimPoint Technologies (Level 2), SeeMore Putting Institute, Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and K-Vest (Level 2). He also is the author of the book, “Drill Your Way to Great Putting: Make Putting Practice Fun and Productive” (CreateSpace Independent Publishing, 2014).
