MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., February 2, 2016 – This March, local golfers will have the chance to pair up with some of the NCAA’s top men’s golfers and compete to win the General Hackler Collegiate-Am tournament. On Friday, March 11, the Dunes Golf and Beach Club will host the charity golf tournament as part of the 15th Annual Coastal Carolina Hackler Championship presented by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday – one of the nation’s premier collegiate golf tournaments. The Collegiate-Am is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start.

Each team will consist of four players and a collegiate player from a participating university. In addition to course play, all teams will also receive a sponsorship hole sign with the logo and/or message from the participating team, recognition in the Hackler Championship program and tee gifts and prizes. Following the Collegiate-Am teams and players will enjoy a dinner and awards banquet in the Dunes Club ballroom.

Limited spots still remain for interested teams. To register a team of four, the cost is either $1,350 or $1,250 (does not include hole signage). All proceeds from the Collegiate-Am will go to benefit the Coastal Carolina golf program.

“The General Hackler Collegiate-Am will be a great opportunity for local golfers to play with some of the nation’s top collegiate golfers,” said Dennis Nicholl, Head Golf Professional at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club. “In the near future, you could very well see these players in some of the biggest tournaments in golf, so this is a great opportunity to play with tomorrow’s stars.”

Those interested in participating in General Hackler Collegiate-Am can contact Rhett Graham at (843) 349-2893 or rgraham1@coastal.edu.

The 15th Annual Coastal Carolina Hackler Championship presented by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday returns to the Dunes Golf and Beach Club the weekend of March 12-13, and features eight teams ranked in the latest “Golf Week” NCAA Top-50 rankings, including the sixth-ranked North Carolina University Tar Heels.

The General Hackler Championships began in 2002 and have become a staple tournament for colleges across the region. Gen. James Hackler played in events on the local, national and international level, and was the Club Champion at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Gen. Hackler was an avid supporter of the golfing programs at Coastal Carolina University. He endowed a scholarship for the men’s golf team and was instrumental in developing a PGA Golf Management program for the university.

The only golf course in Myrtle Beach with ocean views and a timeless design by famed architect, Robert Trent Jones, The Dunes Club stands as a top 100 golf course in most major golf magazine rankings. The club has hosted many PGA Tours, Senior PGA Tours, women’s, amateur, national and state events. Recently, The Dunes Club hosted the forty-seventh annual PGA Professional National Championship in June 2014. In May of 2017, The Dunes Club will host the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball.
