Scottsdale, AZ – May 4, 2016 – Global Golf Management Group, a leading provider of competitive amateur golf events across the United States and organizer of the United States Golf Challenge, is proud to announce the completion of the inaugural International King’s Cup. Played in honor of Arnold Palmer, golf’s greatest ambassador, The International King’s Cup put the eight winning teams from the United States Golf Challenge National Championship up against their Irish counterparts in a Ryder Cup Style Match Play Event hosted by the Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland. Following multiple video endorsements last week from the likes of Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, six time major winner Nick Faldo, three time major winner Padraig Harrington and Irish golf legend Des Smyth, Team Ireland and Team USA were ready to face off.
After three days of competition between Team Ireland and Team USA, the event ended in a dead tie. Though the odds were astronomical for a tie as there were an available 1152 points for each team, there was a provision in the rules for a playoff just in case. The playoff ended up yielding an Irish win although the gracious Team Ireland offered to call it a tie and have both sides inscribed on the Inaugural King’s Cup. In addition, some of the competitors from the two teams exchanged shirts after the final hole, a tradition that we hope continues for years to come.
A special thank you to Lynn McCool and the entire Lough Erne staff, a truly first-class destination for the Inaugural King’s Cup. The maintenance crew worked tirelessly to get the golf course in spectacular condition albeit the difficult weather conditions. Please check back soon for information on the 2017 International King’s Cup which will back in Ireland next year and may include a few more countries.
