Nationally acclaimed golf resort was one of five resorts in the Midwest to be honored
French Lick, IN – French Lick Resort, one of the leading golf resort destinations in the country, has received yet another accolade from Golf Digest. The leading consumer golf publication recognized the resort destination as one of the “Best Resorts in the Americas.”
The listing of the top resorts can be found in the current May issue where the editors recognize more than 75 top golf resort destinations across the United States, Canada, Caribbean/Bermuda, and Mexico/Central America.
“Whether it’s a buddies’ trip or a getaway with our significant other, what we seek from a golf resort is an experience greater than our usual weekend round,” the magazine editors stated. “Our choice resorts also offer multiple courses, and we’re partial to those layouts that offer fun, frolics and dazzling scenery, although we can’t resist the lure of a marquee ball-buster.”
French Lick Resort was one of five selected among the “Best Golf Resorts in the Midwest” joining The American Club and Erin Hills in Wisconsin, Forest Dunes in Northern Michigan, and Giants Ridge in Minnesota.
“Pete Dye chopped the top off a mountain in creating the course ranked 96th among America’s 100 Greatest. Lee Schmidt recently restored the Donald Ross 18 and converted the Tom Bendelow Course into a compelling nine,” stated Golf Digest.
The Dye course together with the West Baden Springs Hotel is the highlight of the award-winning destination. Golf Digest also awarded the Dye course the “Best New Public Course in the U.S.” when it opened in 2009. The course is located on a dramatic site that looks more like the rolling mountains of North Carolina than the flatlands of Indiana. The course, which hosted the 2015 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, is situated upon a hilltop – one of the highest points in the state – offering panoramic views in all directions that stretch for 30-40 miles.
Complementing the Pete Dye course is the historic Donald Ross course, which underwent a major restoration project that brought the course back to Ross’ original plans. The parkland gem was site of the 1924 PGA Championship won by the legendary Walter Hagen and hosted other golf greats and celebrities such as Gene Sarazen, Chick Evans, and Bing Crosby.
French Lick is now the only resort in the world that combines the classic history of Donald Ross and the modern design work of the legendary Pete Dye. This combination is a spectacular opportunity for golfers to experience two of the best designers who ever shaped beautiful landscapes into golf courses.
