The South Florida PGA proudly announces Coral Cope as the 2016 Michael O’Brien Scholarship recipient. The Michael O’Brien Scholarship is a $1,000 grant annually given to a high school senior or college student entering into his/her freshman or sophomore year of undergraduate studies whose parents or grandparents either work in or are retired from the golf industry. The scholarship is named after PGA Professional Michael O’Brien, who has been a PGA member since 1989 and has volunteered countless hours to service the south Florida community, giving back to countless local charities.
A recent graduate of South Dade Senior High School, Coral was in the top 2% of her graduating class. She was a member of the National Honors Society and was the Student Government Secretary for four years. She participated in cheerleading and dance throughout high school and played one year of tennis. Coral was also active in volunteering throughout her community. She volunteered at the Homestead Homeless Shelter in addition to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Coral said, “I have learned that the community always has open arms to people looking to get involved and they encourage it. I think everyone should have the experience to give back to your community and really get involved in your hometown.”
Coral will attend Florida State University in the fall. We wish her luck in continuing her education and giving back to her community!
