La Quinta, Calif. (November 8, 2016) – La Quinta Resort & Club and PGA WEST has garnered national recognition in recent months, as two of their courses have been named to multiple “best in state” rankings, including “Top 10 Best Courses You Can Play in California” by GOLF Magazine.
In the September 2016 issue of GOLF Magazine, The Stadium Course at PGA WEST was ranked No. 8 and La Quinta Resort & Club’s Mountain Course was ranked No. 10 on the publication’s list of “Best Courses You Can Play in California.” Every two years, GOLF Magazine puts together the best of the best when it comes to golf courses you can play. The list is determined by a panel of 100 raters that includes major winners, course architects, journalists and golf connoisseurs.
In July, GOLF.com recognized La Quinta Resort & Club as a “Premier Resort” Silver Medal Winner in their 2016-17 rankings of the greatest resort destinations in North America. Voting for the “Premier Resorts” was based on four criteria: golf, lodging, food & drink, and service. Forty percent of the resort recognition was based on golf, considering factors such as challenge, playability, scenery, history, facilities and service. The rest of the score was equally weighed among lodging, food & drink, and overall service at the resorts.
And, in March, GolfWeek magazine named The Stadium Course at PGA WEST No. 8 on their ranking of the “Best Courses You Can Play, State-By-State.” Among the criteria used by Golfweek’s panel of course raters include:
• Ease and intimacy of routing – The extent to which the sequence of holes follows natural contours and unfolds in an unforced manner.
• Variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s – Different clubs hit; extent to which the angles of play create interesting and varied playing options; and extent to which holes offer variety of options from the tee and on the second shot.
• Basic quality of conditioning – Variety of playing textures; extent of turf coverage; consistency and quality of bunker sand.
“Walk in the park” test – Degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on.
