KATY, TX – Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club, a Heritage Golf Group property, is proud to announce two Junior Golfers, Maye Huang and Treed Huang, represented Southern Texas in the 4th Annual Drive, Chip & Putt Championship at Augusta National Golf Club. The Championship was held on Sunday April 2nd 2017 and broadcast on Golf Channel.
It all started Saturday night with a welcome dinner that included the 40 boys and 40 girls, ages 7-16. The participants were able mingle and meet with championship ‘green jacket’ golfers. Early Sunday morning, one after another, the 80 finalists took their turns at trying to earn a national title. Each contestant displayed impressive athletic swings and smooth putting strokes.
Maye Huang won the putting competition, her two putts, from 30 and 15 feet, finishing a total of 48 inches from the hole. Masters Champion Mark O’Meara presented Maye Huang her trophy for winning the Girls 7-9 division during the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals (pictured right). Maye finished second in driving with a drive distance of 166.5 yards. Maye also finished second in chipping, her second chip finished 14 inches from the hole, for a two-chip aggregate of 13 feet, 3 inches.
Maye said she spends between an hour and two almost every day practicing her golf. Her first exposure to the Drive, Chip and Putt came three years ago when she watched her brother Treed competed. Treed, had also reached the finals again. Treed tied for fourth in the Boys 12-13 age group on Sunday.
Both Treed Huang and Maye Huang are current members at Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club. “The Club and our Ambassadors are extremely proud of all the accomplishments of both of these young people. They both work tirelessly on their golf games and are also model citizens. They are role models for other Junior Golfers who want to excel,” said Layne Ricks, General Manager of Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club.
The Drive, Chip and Putt Championship was created by the Masters, USGA and PGA in 2013, and has held the finals at Augusta National each year since to kick off Masters Week. Registration for the fifth annual Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is now open.
