Los Angeles, CA – April 12, 2017 – Roadside Attractions, the premier distributor of independent film, is pleased to announce that three of golf’s most influential communities-LinkedGolfers, the Society of Hickory Golfers, and the Golf Collectors Society-have teamed up for Tommy’s Honour. As a show of support for the domestic theatrical release of the highly anticipated golf drama, community leaders from these societies are encouraging their members to get together, socialize, and support a film that embodies their philosophies.
Tommy’s Honour is a highly dramatic and entertaining true story that depicts the tumultuous relationship between Old Tom Morris, played by BAFTA Scotland winner Peter Mullan (WAR HORSE, TRAINSPOTTING), and Young Tommy Morris, played by Jack Lowden (’71, DUNKIRK).
“LinkedGolfers, the Society of Hickory Golfers, and the Golf Collectors Society are ideal promotional partners for Tommy’s Honour,” said Charlie Nelson from Roadside Attractions. “Their members revere this era in the sport of golf, its equipment, its rules, and even its apparel. They truly appreciate the origins of golf, and more specifically, they share our own passion for the story of Old Tom Morris and Young Tom Morris.”
According to LinkedGolfers Owner/Director Sean T. Kelly, whose company is the title sponsor of the prestigious LinkedGolfers World Hickory Open Championship in Scotland, “Tommy’s Honour provides our groups the perfect chance to see and be seen!”
Kelly’s inspiration was to fire off an email to respective societies containing a brief list of ideas to generate enthusiasm and awareness for Tommy’s Honour, such as:
• Become a captain: Jump start friends or association members by planning a day or even the entire opening weekend to include golf, dinner, and a Tommy’s Honour viewing.
• Gather a group: If you can manage 15 people or more, you’ll get special assistance from Jackie Papier (JackiePapier@Hotmail.com).
• Look the part: Hickory golfers and history buffs should don plus fours, petticoats, and crinolines as well as a flat cap or bonnet.
• Take pictures! Photograph your “team” and submit a photos to https://www.facebook.com/tommyshonour/ or https://twitter.com/tommyshonour. #Tommyshonour. Special prizes have been arranged.
The response was swift and inspiring. Durel Billy, a member of the Washington State Golf Association Board of Directors and Marketing Chair for the Society of Hickory Golfers, not only spread the word, he’s organized opening night events in at least a half dozen locations.
The Society of Hickory Golfers Executive Secretary James Davis, pushed news out to members in all corners of the country. He got the word out to the Golf Collectors Society, too. Within days, people had already organized special auctions, club exchanges, cocktail parties, and post-movie Q&As.
Kelly also has organized an opening day hickory outing using the clubs crafted by St. Andrews Golf Company – the very same featured throughout Tommy’s Honour. “If you attend opening night – look for our members and their friends. We’ll be the ones in hickory attire,” added Kelly.
Tommy’s Honour will be theatrically released nationwide on Friday, April 14, 2017, including in large markets such as Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, as well as in golf rich areas like Palm Springs, CA, Monterey, CA and Phoenix, AZ. This highly moving film has received a PG rating, making it a film the entire family can enjoy.

About “Tommy’s Honour”
Set against the early days of the sport and stunning landscape of Scotland, Tommy’s Honour, the 2016 BAFTA Scotland Best Feature Film, is based on the intimate and powerfully moving true story of the challenging relationship between “Old” Tom Morris (BAFTA Scotland winner Peter Mullan) and “Young” Tommy Morris (Jack Lowden, DUNKIRK, ’71, DENIAL), the dynamic father-son team pioneers who ushered in the modern era of golf.
As their fame grew exponentially, Tom and Tommy, Scotland’s golfing royalty, were touched by drama and personal tragedy. At first matching his father’s success, Tommy’s talent and fame grew to outshine his father’s stellar playing record and accomplishments as founder of the Open Championship in 1860, and as a course designer, the local caddie master, greens keeper and club & ball maker. In contrast to his public persona, Tommy’s inner turmoil ultimately led him to rebel against the aristocracy who gave him opportunity, led by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews chief Alexander Boothby (Sam Neill, JURASSIC PARK, THE PIANO), and against the parents who shunned his passionate relationship with his girlfriend-then-wife Meg Drinnen (Ophelia Lovibond, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, MAN UP).
Legendary CBS Sportscaster Jim Nantz said about the film, “Tommy’s Honour is a beautiful tribute to the game. I felt like we were dropped out of a time machine and given the chance “to feel” what golf was like over a century and half ago. For those of us stateside, the extra U in Honour is for YOU to make sure to see this most authentic cinematic achievement.”
Golf Hall of Famer and two-time Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw added, “Tommy’s Honour is a story of champions, a story of faith and a story of pathos. I hope everybody embraces this film, because it is a poignant story that is so beautifully depicted”.
