BOSTON, Mass. – Looking for a fun way to introduce kids to the game of golf this summer? FlingGolf is a dynamic new sport where players fling a golf ball on a golf course with a lacrosse-type FlingStick. It’s fast, fun and new players of all ages can tee it up and fling it right along with family and friends.
Introducing juniors and millennials to FlingGolf is an easy and low-cost approach to learning the fundamentals of the game. FlingGolf uses one stick with a “club head” or basket designed with a channel to hold the golf ball. There are three basic swing techniques: Sidearm/Baseball, Overhand/Lacrosse and Flop shot. On the green, putting becomes a pushing stroke with the ball nestled into the notch on the side of the FlingStick head and one hand down the shaft.
FlingGolf can be played right alongside traditional golfers. A good FlingGolf shot will travel 150-200 yards and par on a course is the same as par for regulation golf. If the ball lands in a bunker or water hazard or out-of-bounds, a Flinger must take a one-stroke penalty. The ball is put back in play by removing the ball from the bunker or hazard along the line of flight and taking the next shot
FlingGolf recently exhibited at the 27th ING Spring Conference, May 21-25, at the World Golf Village/World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Fla. Alex Van Alen, Founder and CEO of FlingGolf played in the Team Scramble tournament and helped lead the team to a tie for first place. “We made six birdies right out of the gate and Alex contributed to half of them, said Holly Geoghegan, Host of “The Golf Insiders” on iHeartRadio. “I was amazed at the control and finesse shots he had with the FlingStick – Alex could make the ball stick it on the green just like a pure iron shot.”
For club professionals, FlingGolf is attracting a wider audience to their golf courses. Brett Mowbray, PGA member and Director of Golf at Massanutten Resort in McGaheysville, Va., was an early adopter of FlingGolf. The course has exceeded more than 4,000 rounds and over $100,000 in added revenue since it first introduced the sport in 2015, not including pro shop, food and beverage sales.
FlingGolf is growing across the country and internationally. It’s family-friendly, time-friendly, and attracts golfers and non-golfers alike. It has even brought back players who have abandoned the sport due to injury or frustration.
Dennis Yates, age 61, has been a golfer for 40 years and recently played FlingGolf at Falmouth Country Club in Massachusetts. “Thanks for making golf fun again. After years of frustration playing golf I was ready to hang up the clubs but I enjoy being with my friends,” commented Yates. “I heard about FlingGolf and gave it a try. Loved it. Can’t wait ’til next week to get back out.”
For those who like lacrosse, baseball, or hockey, and a more active style of play, FlingGolf delivers. FlingGolf teaches the rules and the basics of the game while providing players a potential pathway to traditional golf. For more info or to purchase a FlingStick, go to www.flinggolf.com.
