(Englewood, Colo) — GOLFTEC – the world leader in golf lessons and top employer of PGA Professionals – congratulates Kent Menendez, a student at GOLFTEC Encinitas Ranch, on winning a gold medal in the golf competition during the 2017 Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games, held June 10 – 11 in Long Beach, Calif.
The 27-year-old from Cardiff, Calif., successfully repeated his 2016 gold medal performance in the Level 4, Nine-Hole Individual Stroke Play event. Menendez knocked two strokes off last year’s winning score to reclaim the top spot on the podium. Over the past two years, he has worked diligently on improving all areas of his game with GOLFTEC Certified Coach Rob Faber, who has over 10 years of experience teaching players of all skill levels.
“Rob’s plan for improvement in Kent’s game emphasizes golfing skills along with the needed mental toughness and confidence to achieve his goals,” says Daniel Menendez, Kent’s father and coach. “Rob has a talent for knowing which buttons to push to encourage Kent to work hard and to get his teaching points across.”
Menendez was recently informed he will be competing in the Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle, held during the summer of 2018. He will be the only golfer and one of just four athletes to represent San Diego County in the quadrennial event. The National Games feature 3,500 athletes from across the U.S. competing in 14 different sports.
“We ask Kent to just have a great attitude and be happy,” explains Faber. “If we don’t hit a good shot, we move onto the next and don’t stagnate or get wrapped up in the dread of the last shot. Instead, we move forward with a positive attitude.”
