Trio included among “Best Courses You Can Play” and ranked as top 3 in Hilton Head
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (April 24, 2018) – The three captivating golf courses that place The Sea Pines Resort among the most desirable golf destinations in the world have been ranked by Golfweek in the top 15 courses in golf-rich South Carolina. The trio of courses also ranked 1, 2, and 3 on Hilton Head Island.
Overall, Harbour Town Golf Links is ranked No. 2 in South Carolina, with Atlantic Dunes No. 9 and Heron Point No. 13. Golf courses must be accessible to the public to be eligible for the “Best Courses You Can Play” recognition. Golfweek will publish the full list of state rankings in May.
“We are honored to be recognized by Golfweek for having the best golf experiences in the state and tops on Hilton Head Island,” said Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports & Operations, The Sea Pines Resort. “Being included on the Golfweek rankings is a result of our golf staff’s commitment to providing world-class golf, along with memories that will last a lifetime.”
On an island where golf is king, Harbour Town Golf Links is true royalty. Joined by the highly acclaimed Heron Point and the all-new Atlantic Dunes, The Sea Pines Resort features a world-class experience unmatched on the Carolina coastline. Set amid scenic Lowcountry landscapes, all three courses at The Sea Pines Resort have achieved designation as Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries.
Established in 1969, Harbour Town Golf Links remains the hands-down No. 1 golf attraction on Hilton Head Island golf resorts. Designed by legendary golf architect Pete Dye, with Jack Nicklaus as consultant, the traditional venue for South Carolina’s only PGA Tour event has established an illustrious history is largely responsible for Hilton Head’s golf reputation internationally.
Heron Point is a meticulous redesign by Dye that, since 2007, has evolved into an essential component of any Sea Pines Resort golf vacation. Heron Point is a combination of charm and challenge, with strategic risk-reward shot selections, dramatic fairways, and shifting elevations presented in a remarkably comfortable playing experience.
Atlantic Dunes is a complete reconstruction of the resort’s Ocean Course, the first golf course built on Hilton Head Island in 1962. Retracing the original routing, the Davis Love III design captures the beachfront ambience and unmistakable Lowcountry feel. Each hole was entirely rebuilt to accommodate modern shot values and frame scenic corridors.
Situated on the southernmost tip of Hilton Head Island, the legendary Lowcountry destination features five miles of unspoiled beaches, 21 clay tennis courts, 14 miles of bike and walking trails, horseback riding, Eco-Adventures, water sports, and the 605-acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve rich in wildflowers, wetlands, and more than 130 species of birds. As the first Eco-planned destination in the U.S., The Sea Pines Resort has become the blueprint for numerous beach developments around the country.
The resort’s best-in-class collection of golf courses, amenities, dining experiences, meeting facilities, and accommodations makes The Sea Pines Resort one of the most sought-after leisure and group destinations in America.
