The Original Draft Fantasy Game for Amateur Golfers
Drafting your fellow club members is set to add additional enjoyment to your golf game as 6Joe’s, the world’s first Draft Fantasy Sports (DFS) game, exclusively for the amateur golf market, is being launched at the coveted, annual PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida; January 23-25 2019.
Now, instead of drafting the Pros like Tiger, Dustin and Rory to your fantasy team, you will draft your friends and fellow club golfers like Terry, Bob and Sue – each carrying a draft value based on their skill level or handicap.
Over 62 million people participated in a draft fantasy activity in 2018 in North America; these figures have been rising sharply over the past decade with DFS being credited for a worldwide growth in professional sports interaction and engagement.
The 6Joe’s concept was the brainchild of David Blott, Co-Founder, President and CEO. A Country Club operator from England, David immigrated to Canada and became General Manager of a golf club in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he was consistently tasked with and challenged to, engage his membership. It was at this club, after enjoying an afternoon in the clubhouse with some DFS participating club members, that he came up with the vision of combining draft fantasy with amateur golf. He has spent the last 22 months assembling a team to deliver 6Joe’s to the world stage.
Amateur golf aligns itself perfectly with the DFS concept because of the globally recognized handicap system for amateur golfers, allowing for fair and accurate valuations for draft purposes. Perhaps the most innovative aspect is the unique integration of skill levels among club members and the team believes this is the biggest asset for club operators. “Throughout our trial events, we witnessed scratch golfers following virtually every shot of the 24 handicapper with captivated interest, which is something of a game changer for club engagement” said David Blott, “It is this unification of different skill levels and demographics that is our single biggest success story in helping to grow the game of golf.”
VP of Business Development, Jessica Gaudet, is particularly excited by the increase in club engagement, specifically as this relates to men and women. “As a keen golfer myself, I am absolutely thrilled that our product promotes competition for both men and women on a totally equitable playing field. 6Joe’s is equally effective whether your team of Joes consist of Josephs or Josephines,” she says.
6Joe’s was pre-launched for a season of user trials at the prestigious Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links golf clubs in Cape Breton for the annual Cobra-Puma PGA Atlantic Spring Pro-Am event in 2018. PGA Atlantic Executive Director, Lindon Garron was eager to have the concept unveiled at the event as he is a strong advocate of growing the game of golf through innovation. “Playing 6Joe’s is all about the promotion of engagement, which encourages interaction and camaraderie among the participants, and this is much needed in our industry. I am supportive of any innovation that can help grow the popularity and enjoyment of the game at an amateur level.” says Lindon.
The 6Joe’s team will be hosting three days of simulated DFS games at the PGA Merchandise Show to provide attendees the opportunity to experience the thrill of the game, with $1,500 in cash prizes available.
Visitors to the show can visit David, Jessica and the team at booth 3316. “Nobody enjoys competition and a wager more than a golfer, and when it’s your buddies who impact your team it can make for some hilarious banter” said Jessica. “The reaction to date has been exceptional; we can’t wait for 6Joe’s to become another layer of enjoyment for golfers at their local clubs.”
