New Jersey Golf Foundation Annual Golf Classic Raises nearly $250,000 to Support Golf Programming for Youth, Military and Special Needs
Michael Rosenberg, Co-Founder Tetragon Financial Group, Honored as 2019 Chairman’s Award Recipient
The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), today announced that the 13th Annual NJGF Golf Classic – hosted at Baltusrol Golf Club on Monday, August 12th – raised nearly $250,000 to support dynamic golf programming for youth, military and individuals with special needs.
The NJGF Golf Classic is the signature fundraising event on the Foundation’s annual calendar and the Chairman’s Award is given annually to an individual who works tirelessly behind the scenes to support NJGF programs and initiatives. Michael Rosenberg, Co-Founder of Tetragon Financial Group, and an active supporter of NJGF programming for many years was honored as the 2019 Chairman’s Award Recipient.
The NJGF was created in 2004 to positively impact lives and communities through the game of golf, with a focus on 3 core pillars; youth, military, and special needs. Under the guidance of PGA Professionals, programming is designed to provide individuals from all backgrounds with an opportunity to experience the game of golf in a welcoming environment. One of the highlights of the day was a Special Olympics NJ-YAP Clinic (Young Athletes Program) hosted by NJPGA Professionals, where a group of boys and girls ages 3-7 were introduced to the game of golf.
The beneficiaries of the 2019 NJGF Golf Classic include “Golf in Schools,” an initiative that introduces the game of golf to children (K-8) by incorporating the sport into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools throughout the state. New Jersey is home to one of the most prolific Golf in Schools programs in the country, impacting more than 110,000 boys and girls at more than 200 schools.
“Teeing it up at Baltusrol GC is a treat for so many, and thanks to the incredible support from partners and donors, we have a unique opportunity to enhance our golf programming, while making a more meaningful impact in communities across the state,” said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, NJ Golf Foundation.
Additional programs under the youth, military and special needs pillars that will benefit from the NJGF Golf Classic include: PGA Junior League; Boys & Girls Clubs; Special Olympics NJ; Els for Autism; PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) – the NJGF’s flagship military program that introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities; and the new golf program at Rutgers University that supports student military Veterans as they transition into civilian life.
