Balsam Mountain Preserve Names Chris Duprey as Managing Director

July 13, 2026

(SYLVA, N.C.) – Balsam Mountain Preserve, the premier private residential community nestled high in the Blue Ridge Mountains between the charming mountain towns of Sylva and Waynesville, announces the appointment of Chris Duprey as its new managing director.

Duprey brings more than 30 years of senior leadership experience in construction, real estate development, golf course development and brokerage. Most recently, he served as project executive at Southworth Development, providing high-level strategic oversight across multiple complex development initiatives.

Prior to joining Balsam Mountain Preserve, Duprey led the full development of Meredith Bay, New Hampshire’s premier Lakes Region resort-amenitized community, overseeing the project from initial concept through completion. He previously directed the development and successful sale of Starr Pass Resort in Tucson, Ariz., which included the creation of the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa and Starr Pass Country Club & Spa.

Known for his disciplined approach, strategic vision and exceptional client focus, Duprey excels at steering large-scale, high-value projects through every phase, from planning and permitting to construction, asset management and disposition. In this new senior leadership role, Duprey will oversee major project development, capital improvements and overall asset management for the community.

“I’m honored to step into the role of Managing Director at Balsam Mountain Preserve,” says Duprey. “This is a truly exceptional community. I look forward to building on its strong foundation by delivering thoughtful, high-quality enhancements that elevate the resident experience while preserving the natural beauty and authentic character of these mountains.”

“Chris has been a trusted partner and leader in our organization for nearly three decades,” adds David Southworth, developer of Balsam Mountain Preserve. “His depth of experience, calm judgment and ability to execute complex projects at the highest level are unmatched. He is the ideal person to guide Balsam Mountain Preserve into its next chapter of growth and excellence.”

When not working, Duprey is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys spending time with his wife Louise of 44 years, their children and grandchildren. He can often be found hunting trophy whitetails in the woods of Maine, fly fishing for tarpon and bonefish, or sailing the waters of the Caribbean.
